Enmark Announces 2015 Encourage Health Educational Series

Enmark Announces Speakers and Benefiting Nonprofit Organizations for the 2015 Encourage Health Educational Series

(SAVANNAH, GA) Enmark’s Encourage Health Educational Series presents the 2015 lineup and benefiting nonprofit organizations. The series will feature four presentations throughout the year, from the area’s most respected experts sharing insights on nutrition, fitness and general tips for healthy living. Selected 501c3 nonprofit organizations will be awarded a $2,000 grant from Encourage Health Education Sponsors and will be allotted an Enmark Dollar Day, along with a chance to win a grand prize at the end of the series.

The lectures will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Auditorium of the Savannah Morning News, located at 1375 Chatham Parkway in Savannah. A healthy lunch will be provided by local business sponsors. Attendance is free and open to the public, but RSVPs are required at Healthy Savannah’s website, http://healthysavannah.org/event-sign-up-page/ .

The first lecture, “5 Strategies for the Prevention and Treatment of Childhood Obesity,” will be presented on Tuesday, February 24 by Nathan Mikeska, BS Nutrition, CPT, CWC and Courtney Peterson, Certified Health Education Specialist and wellness coach at Ourlife Health. Childhood Obesity Prevention and Education (COPE) has been selected as the nonprofit organization to be awarded the Encourage Health grant during this lecture. The mission of COPE is to combat childhood obesity with a threefold approach – nutrition education, fitness and behavioral health.

On Tuesday, April 28, Drew McKenzie will present, “Crossfit, Why and How It Works in Weight Loss.” McKenzie is the owner and operator with Crossfit Hyperformance. At McKenzie’s lecture, the Encourage Health grant will be given to Georgia Bikes, a Savannah-based nonprofit organization working to promote bicycling for fitness, fun, and transportation. The group strives to help improve bicycling conditions throughout Georgia.

Robert Espinoza will present the third lecture of the 2015 Encourage Health Series on Tuesday, August 25. Espinoza and his wife Cookie are the owners of Fleet Feet Savannah. He will present “How to Train for a 5K.” During Espinoza’s lecture, the Encourage Health grant donation will be presented to the Effingham County Navigator Team, a not-for-profit support group and recreational program for children with special needs and different abilities. The group provides recreational activities such as basketball, baseball, soccer, cornhole and bowling.

The final lecture in the series will be “10 Yoga Tips: Hectic to Harmonious in 5 Minutes or Less” on Tuesday, October 27. It will be presented by Kelley J. Boyd, E-RYT500, founder and teacher at Savannah Yoga Center. At Boyd’s lecture, the Forsyth Farmer’s Market (FFM) will be awarded the Encourage Health grant. The FFM organization affirms it “envisions a sustainable, local food system that promotes the health of individuals, farmers and the community.”

The 2015 Enmark Encourage Health Education Series is sponsored by Healthy Savannah, the Savannah Morning News, Savannah Magazine, WJCL and GPB Savannah – WSVH 91.1/WWIO 89.9. Please note,  the Habitat for Humanity Effingham County is canceling the Women’s Build Brunch on Saturday, January 31 at the Mighty Eigth Air Force Museum. It will be rescheduled for a later date. Habitat‘s board of directors would like to thank Assisting Working Women In Need, AWWIN, and Grace Culture International of Guyton, for their continued support and look forward to working with them on this project in the future.

(SAVANNAH, GA) AWWIN, Inc (Assisting Working Women In Need), Habitat for Humanity Effingham County and Grace Culture International of Guyton, GA have partnered to present a Women’s Build Brunch on Saturday, January 31 at 11 a.m. at the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum. The goal of the Women’s Build Brunch will be to provide more information about the upcoming Habitat build, while potentially rallying at least 100 women to raise the $15,000 needed to build the home for a local grandmother. The brunch is also sponsored by Thrivent Financial Coastal Advantage Group and Two Chicks And A Trunk.

                                                                 

“Women are the key to helping more families with decent, healthy and affordable housing in Effingham County. We have to do a better job of involving women in all aspects of Habitat for Humanity,” said George Groce, construction manager.

 

Habitat for Humanity’s Women’s Build Program encourages women to make a difference by building homes and creating safe communities for children to grow up in. The program provides an environment where women can feel comfortable learning skills in construction which they may not have had the option to learn elsewhere. Habitat for Humanity Effingham County actively recruits and trains women to help build and maintain healthy and affordable homes. Women contractors and women owed businesses are also enlisted to assist with building processes.

 

The upcoming Habitat build is will be a home for a 74-year-old-grandmother who has been living in Rincon for 14 years while raising her four granddaughters and great grandson. Groundbreaking for the build is scheduled for Saturday, February 7 at 9:00AM

Take Highway 21 to Rincon; turn onto Fourth Street (next to Rincon Elementary School); turn left onto Lexington Avenue; turn right onto Talmadge Avenue (entrance to Governor’s Ridge). The build site is on the left. Parking will be on the right.

Based out of Savannah, Bowen is a business attorney who focuses on commercial, banking and manufacturing law and also offers comprehensive mediation services. Bowen has received the Martindale-Hubbell® AV® Preeminent™ rating, the highest rating based upon confidential surveys sent to other attorneys. Bowen was also selected by the members of the State Bar of Georgia in December of 2014 as one of Georgia Trend’s 12th Annual Legal Elite in two categories: Business Law and Corporate Law. A Celebration of Love Concert to Benefit Park Place Outreach on February 6

(SAVANNAH, GA) The Park Place Outreach Youth Emergency Shelter announces their Celebration of Love event, an evening of jazz, auctions, dinner and entertainment, taking place Friday, Feb. 6 in celebration of the organization’s 31 year anniversary.

The evening will start at 6 p.m. at the Plantation Club of the Landings. Individual seats are $125; a table of 10 is $1150. In addition, the organization is promoting five sponsorship levels, including diamond, platinum, gold, silver and bronze, through which companies and individuals are able to support this local youth shelter.

Guests will enjoy an incredible evening of music performed by Joe Gransden, who has preformed worldwide and released 14 CDs. There will be a silent auction, listing items such as a SEC Championship package for Atlanta in December including roundtrip air, pre game party and tickets from Dr. Pepper. Kaitlyn is an active member and the past Vice President of the sorority, Zeta Tau Alpha. She volunteers with the Statesboro Bulloch County Breast Cancer Foundation. Currently, DeLong is the Assistant Activities Director at Willow Pond Senior Living Community in Statesboro, Ga. One of her hobbies is photography and she owns her own photography company called Kaitlyn DeLong Photography. She also enjoys playing intramural sports such as flag football and softball.
