The Caring Easter Bunny Welcomes Children with Different Abilities on March 19

By | Local NewsWIRE

(SAVANNAH, GA) On Saturday, March 19, the Caring Bunny will be greeting families at the lower level of Center Court in the Savannah Mall, located at 14045 Abercorn St. With an atmosphere free from bright, flashing lights, or high-energy music, all children with different abilities are invited to meet Caring Bunny at this free event from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.

“We wanted to offer a chance for children with different abilities to meet with an Easter icon,” said Phil McConnell, Savannah Mall’s general manager. “Savannah Mall’s Caring Bunny greets children in a calm environment, in an effort to make the Easter Bunny experience enjoyable for everyone.”

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)’s most recent data suggests an average of one in 110 children have an autism spectrum disorder. Autistic children’s senses can be oversensitive or under-developed, which affects how they experience different environments, making background noises unbearably loud or confusing. This can cause anxiety or even physical pain. For more information on the CDC’s information on autism, visit http://www.cdc.gov/ncbddd/autism/features/counting-autism.html

During their visit with the Caring Bunny, families will be given a 5 x 7 photograph from the visit, and a complimentary ride on the children’s train. For more informant, visit www.savannahmall.com

Enmarket and Healthy Savannah Select Four Nonprofit Organizations to Benefit from the 2016 Encourage Health Series

By | Local NewsWIRE

(SAVANNAH, GA) Enmarket and Healthy Savannah announce the four nonprofit organizations that will receive the $1000 grants during the 2016 Encourage Health Series will be the Coastal Georgia Council of Boy Scouts of America, Savannah AMBUCS, Savannah Tree Foundation and Urban Hope, Inc.

Boy Scouts of America
While 25 of 136 merit badges directly reward physical activity for participating in swimming, camping, cycling or another activity, the Coastal Georgia Council, Boy Scouts of America also reaches beyond the boys and encourages their families to get involved as well. The Boy Scout Oath outlines the ideals the organization strives to uphold and one of the lines reads, “to keep myself physically strong.”

Savannah AMBUCS
Savannah AMBUCS was selected because of their efforts to support healthy living through the adaptation of bikes for people with different abilities. By showing individuals how a three wheeled bike can work for them, the organization improves their physical, mental, and emotional well being.

The Savannah Tree Foundation
The Savannah Tree Foundation benefits individuals as well as the environment. Their mission is to plant, protect and preserve the trees of Chatham County. These trees benefit our overall health by providing fresh air, creating more walking friendly neighborhoods, cleaning out our waterways, and providing shade from the sun in the hot summer months.

Urban Hope, Inc.
Urban Hope, Inc. is focused on helping the inner city children in Savannah create better lives for themselves. Through the funding of the Encourage Health grant, Urban Hope plans to hold a free, eight-week summer yoga camp for their Kindergarten-Eigth graders. These yoga classes would promote physical and mental health and provide both instructors and children with a beneficial program.

“We had many deserving organizations participate in the Facebook contest this year,” said Matt Clements, Marketing Director at enmarket. “We believe these groups will help promote and further our enriching lives initiative through the various programs they have set up in our community.”

Any Savannah area registered 501c3 nonprofit organization with a mission to promote healthy living, active lifestyles or nutritional education, was encouraged to enter the Facebook competition.

In addition to the grant, all four recipients will be able to increase the support for their cause by being awarded an enmarket Dollar Day where they receive $1 for every car wash and donations from enmarket customers at the registers and charity table.

At the end of the series, one of the four selected nonprofit organizations will also receive an additional $1000 grand prize. Each organization will receive their own QR code to be scanned with purchases at any of the 61 enmarket stores. The organization with the highest number of scans will win the final check to be given out at the last Encourage Health presentation.

The Encourage Health Series will feature four presentations throughout the year, from the area’s most respected experts sharing insights on nutrition, fitness and general tips for healthy living. The series is sponsored by: enmarket, Healthy Savannah, Savannah Morning News, Savannah Magazine and GPB Savannah – WSVH 91.1/WWIO 89.9. For more information on the upcoming luncheon dates and speakers, visit http://enmarkstations.com/EncourageHealthSeries.

Local CPA to Speak about New Tax Law for Families with Disabilities at Next Lowcounty Down Syndrome Society Meeting

By | Local NewsWIRE

(POOLER, GA) The Lowcountry Down Syndrome Society (LDSS) announces Rob Cordasco, CPA as the featured speaker for the group’s monthly meeting on Tuesday, March 22 at 6:30 p.m. at Benedictine Military School. The meeting, designed to educate and support families in the area, is free and open to the public. Cordasco will address new tax laws for families with disabilities.

In 2014, the ABLE (Achieving a Better Life Experience) Act became law and was a great victory for people and families with different abilities. This new law allows families to set up tax-free savings accounts without jeopardizing their eligibility for Medicaid and Social Security benefits. In addition to discussing the importance of these ABLE accounts, the meeting will focus on planning for long term financial needs, specifics of funding limits, eligibility requirements and qualified expenses.

“Parents of children with different abilities are often unaware of possible tax benefits that are available,” said Cordasco. “My goal is to answer any questions they may have and make tax time a little less stressful.”

Cordasco is a Certified Public Accountant and Certified Information Technology Professional with 30 years of experience in public accounting. In early 2007, he began Cordasco & Company, a boutique tax and accounting firm in Savannah. The firm provides high-end tax and accounting services to small and mid-sized businesses and their owners. Cordasco is licensed to practice in Georgia and Alabama. He is a member of the American Institute of CPAs, the Georgia Society of CPAs and the Alabama Society of CPAs.

Enmarket Pumps $500,000 into Employee Starting Salaries and Management Wages

By | Charleston NewsWIRE, Local NewsWIRE, Savannah, Georgia Public Relations Firm, PR Agency

(SAVANNAH, GA) Enmarket, (formerly Enmark) has announced it is investing over $500,000 per year to increase the starting salaries of its convenience store employees and has raised its senior general manager earnings potential to a minimum of $55,000, with a profit sharing bonus. This decision underscores the company’s commitment to building the best workplace in the retail industry.

“We want to offer the freshest experience for our customers, and we’re starting with how we better support our store-level team to lead the industry,” said Ryan Chandler, Vice President of Business Development at Colonial Group Inc., the parent company of enmarket. “To get there, we have to set ourselves up to develop, retain and attract the best people. That’s precisely why we have established an industry-leading career path, compensation program and benefits structure. Training, development and recruiting are key priorities. At the same time, we will have industry leading responsibility and accountability.”

The Savannah-based company is offering starting salaries well above the national federal minimum wage rate of $7.25. This strategy is expected to attract new talent to the company and aligns with enmarket’s “Enriching Life” campaign. “It’s more than a campaign; it’s our mission,” said Chandler. The campaign strives to foster the personal and professional growth of team members, now called Chief Enrichment Officers, or “CEOs.” According to Chandler, “Enriching life starts with our team because we know that investment leads to the highest levels of customer satisfaction.”

The employment requirements for managers and senior general managers were also strengthened to attract candidates with higher levels of education, experience, proficiencies and management skills. The salary for a senior general manager was increased to a midrange of $55,000 a year, while the mid-range of the average management salary rose to around $45,000 a year. Enmarket managers will additionally have the opportunity to earn a 5% bonus of their store’s net income.

Enmarket’s commitment in increasing employee compensation and benefits underscores its position as a market leader and aligns with the company’s 2015 rebranding and name change, which also added new healthy snack products, fresh foods and take-home meal solutions to more than 60 store locations throughout Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina.

“There’s so much happening to enrich the lives of our customers and employees,” said Matt Clements, Director of Marketing. “Enmarket is recognized as a brand of friendly employees, fresh offerings and quality fuels. We’re now pleased to be leading the way again by making a substantial investment in the building the greatest retail team in the industry.”
