ApartmentSavannah.com Commissions Public Art Mural at Edgewater Trace Apartments
(SAVANNAH, GA) ApartmentSavannah.com has commissioned a 225-foot-tall mural at Edgewater Trace Apartments that aims to help beautify the generic highway look of the last leg of the Truman Parkway expansion. The Savannah-centric mural, painted by Katherine Sandoz and team, was commissioned to reflect the beauty of the lowcountry’s landscape in the heart of Southside Savannah.
The final phase of the Truman Parkway

expansion includes a barrier wall wrapping around the decorative pond that serves as one of Edgewater Trace’s most distinguishing features. Jeff Kole, owner of ApartmentSavannah.com and Edgewater Trace Apartments, saw a mural as the perfect way to enhance their resident’s experience by highlighting the beauty inherent to the lowcountry while camouflaging the concrete wall. “We saw this as an opportunity to commission a noted public artist and advocate, Katherine Sandoz, to design a mural which would both beautify and unify the look of the pond and, perhaps, advance the discussion about how public art can enhance the natural beauty of our community,” said Jeff Kole of Kole Management, owner and operator of ApartmentSavannah.com.

The mural will transform the wall into a 225-foot-tall canvas that will display the landscape, skyscape, and waterways that the Savannah area is best known for. The mural at Edgewater Trace is part of a nationwide wall-art trend, facilitated locally by SeeSAW (See Savannah Art Walls). The Edgewater Trace mural is the third locally permitted project for artist Katherine Sandoz.

“Public arts marry individuals and cement community experiences as they so often represent the celebration of what is universally experienced, introduce new ideas, in new ways, that resonate universally,” said Sandoz. “All cities have a Southside, but not all cities have a property owner who is committed to highlighting and celebrating the individual flavor of the city and its indigenous beauty.”

The mural is scheduled to be unveiled Tuesday, Nov. 19th and can be viewed from Edgewater Trace Apartments, located at 10714 Abercorn Ave.
