(AUGUSTA, GA) The Morris Museum of Art launches its 19th annual Porter Fleming Literary Competition, which recognizes outstanding fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and plays.  Writers age 18 and older who reside in Georgia, Florida, Alabama, South Carolina, and North Carolina are invited to enter. The deadline for submissions is July 13, 2012. The competition awards cash prizes totaling $7,000. Entry forms and guidelines can be found on the museum website

(AUGUSTA, GA) Laney Walker/Bethlehem is being showcased this summer in Washington, DC at the national Neighborhood Revitalization Conference. Chester Wheeler, Director of Augusta’s Housing Department, and Jesse Wiles, President of APD, which serves as the project manager for Laney Walker/Bethlehem are both featured in a presentation on regenerating the American city.

(AUGUSTA, GA) The Georgia Health Sciences Cancer Center has been granted three-year accreditation with commendation by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer. Accreditation followed an on-site evaluation. Medical care and continued development of the Georgia Health Sciences Center are cornerstones in Augusta’s economic development.
