(AUGUSTA, GA) A special proposed overlay plan for land use for the Wrightsboro Road area of the Laney Walker/Bethlehem revitalization effort will be taken up by the Augusta-Richmond County Commission this coming January. The plan has been supported by the Planning Commission and the Laney Walker Neighborhood Association, among others. Public is invited to attend and provide thoughts and feedback.

(AUGUSTA, GA) The African American Historical Committee of Augusta will dedicate a marker to Reverend Samuel Butler Wallace and Mrs. Etta V. Wallace on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at 1:00 PM in front of the Wallace Branch Library. The Wallace Branch Library was the dream and vision of Reverend Samuel Wallace Jr., who helped found Augusta’s first African American Library Branch in 1937.

(AUGUSTA, GA) The Laney Walker Development Corporation is shortly to begin work on the construction of two new houses on 11th Street south of Laney Walker Boulevard. The new construction along 11th Street constitutes part of the expansion of the Heritage Pine Development, the pioneer project for the revitalization of Laney Walker/Bethlehem and recipient of the Georgia Planning Association’s 2011 Outstanding Implementation Award.

(AUGUSTA, GA) The Board of the Augusta Housing Authority has approved construction of 24 – 26 senior housing units on the Immaculate Conception property located at 11th Street and Laney Walker Boulevard. The Housing Authority is working in tandem with Augusta’s Housing Department on a design that fits within the guidelines of the Laney Walker/Bethlehem Redevelopment Plan.
