(WSAV) The National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) wrote a letter to the Georgia Department of Public Health, requesting that officials consider people with Down syndrome when prioritizing who would receive the COVID-19 vaccine first. President of the NDSS’s Lowcountry chapter John Bogardus and other advocates argue people with Down syndrome are at a higher risk of death from COVID-19 due to complex medical conditions and comorbidities that exist in this population.

Turner participated in this 6-month distance learning program earlier this year. PHOTOVOICE AUTHOR DR. NANDI A. MARSHALL APPOINTED TO GEORGIA BREASTFEEDING COALITION BOARD
(SAVANNAH, GA) Dr. Nandi A. Marshall has been appointed to the board of directors for the Georgia Breastfeeding Coalition, an organization striving to improve and maintain the health of Georgia’s families by protecting, promoting and supporting breastfeeding. A public health professor at Georgia Southern University, Dr. Marshall recently facilitated a Photovoice project to identify social, cultural, and physical barriers that discourage breastfeeding by African American mothers in Chatham County and the opportunities to remove those obstacles. The findings were published in a photo book, “Savannah H.O.P.E. Photovoice Project,” documenting personal experiences from local African-American mothers. Dr. Marshall was also recently appointed to the American Public Health Association’s Executive Leadership Board and The Photovoice project was recognized by the National Association of County and City Health Officials.
