Dr. Angela Canfield Held First Talk in the 2015 Inspiring Smiles Series

(SAVANNAH, GA) Dr. Angela Canfield of Sandfly Family Dental in Savannah, GA held the first talk in the 2015 Inspiring Smiles Series on Tuesday, January 27 at 6 p.m. The discussion was titled “Mercury Removal in the the Mouth.”

The environmental health effects of mercury, primarily found in mercury-laden sliver fillings, include brain damage and neurological problems especially for children and the unborn babies of pregnant women.

Along with Dr. Canfield, Dr. Mark Domanski of Crossroads Chiropractic and Wellness Center presented. Dr. Domanski presented common symptoms of mercury poisoning, to include: burning sensation in extremities (peripheral neuropathy); skin discoloration (pink cheeks, fingertips and toes); swelling  and shedding of the skin; profuse sweating; increased heart rate (tachycardia); increased salivation; elevated blood pressure (hypertension); hair loss (alopecia); transient rashes; muscle weakness (hypotonia); increased sensitivity to light; memory impairment and brain fog; kidney disfunction; insomnia and mood disorders such as anxiety, depression, and emotional lability; and tremors.

Dr. Canfield followed Dr. Domanski’s talk to explain where mercury is found in the mouth and how to remove it safely. She also explained the composition on dental Amalgam, which consists of mercury and alloy powder. Before recommending anything to a patient, Dr. Canfield said she explains the precautions people should take when geting their silver fillings removed to avoid getting sick.

The Inspiring Smiles Series was free to attend, but there was an encouraged donation to the Savannah Children’s Theatre. To RSVP for the next lecture, "Oral DNA and Periodontal Testing" on Tuesday, April 14, from Noon to 1 p.m., call Dr. Canfield at 912-349-0472.
