Friends Of Music Now Offering Educational Puppet Program For Area Schools

(Savannah, GA) Friends of Music are now accepting requests from Savannah schools to present their Puppet Program to students. The shows will start later this February and run throughout April at primary and elementary schools in the Savannah area. The purpose of the Puppet Program is to introduce children to Classical Music.
The puppets, which represent musical instruments,  such as a Viola, French Horn, Oboe and Xylophone, were created by puppet designer, Angela Beasley. Each instrument represents the string, brass, woodwind, and percussion sections in a symphony orchestra. In the show, there is also a conductor and a detective, who is searching for his favorite musical sound. The entire show runs about 25 minutes.
There are 12 puppeteers who are all members of Savannah Friends of Music. "I have been a puppeteer for 10 years and to see the children’s faces is so rewarding," said Marie Schueremann, chairman of the Savannah Friends of Music Puppeteers,
"Our goal is to get the children excited about classical music while enjoying the show."
Started in 2004, the Savannah Friends of Music’s Puppet Program began with Bunnie Ludtke’s suggestion that the SFOM adopt the puppet program developed by the Sacramento Symphony Guild for children in the Savannah area.
SFOM has also designed and published a coloring book with drawings of the puppets as an educational material illustrating all the musical instruments of the orchestra. Following every performance, each child in attendance is given a coloring book to reinforce the concepts presented.
