Greater Savannah Sports Council to to Sponsor 2011 $50,000 Savannah Challenger Tennis Tournament

(SAVANNAH, GA) The 2011 $50,000 Savannah Challenger Tennis Tournament is pleased to announce that the Greater Savannah Sports Council will serve as a Sponsor for the prestigious annual sporting event. The tournament, which takes place April 30-May 8 at The Landings on Skidaway Island, is open to the public and will feature 32 world-ranked tennis professionals vying to win highly coveted ATP ranking points in addition to the prize money. “We are pleased to have the Greater Savannah Sports Council on board as a sponsor for this year’s Savannah Challenger,” says Tournament Chairperson Robin Gold. “The Sports Council is an asset to the local athletic community and has been a loyal partner of the Savannah Challenger every year.” The professional lineup for the 2011 $50,000 Savannah Challenger includes James Blake, who achieved a fourth place world ranking in 2006, and Ryan Sweeting, who recently won the 2011 U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championships singles title in Houston. The week-long tournament will also feature a Kids Day Clinic and a Ladies Day, as well as a Pro-Am in which 100 percent of the proceeds will be donated to Special Pops Tennis, an adaptive tennis program for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. The 2011 $50,000 Savannah Challenger and all special activities are open to the public.
