FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Tybee Island Third Grader Katie Spirides Awarded Key to the City

(TYBEE ISLAND, GA) Nine-year-old Katie Spirides was awarded the Key to the City of Tybee Island at the City Council’s meeting on April 26. Katie, the daughter of Tybee Island resident and businessman Harry Spirides and his wife, Kerriann, was presented the distinguished honor by Tybee Island Mayor Jason Buelterman and the City Council for her extraordinary efforts in gathering a very large quantity of food and donating it to the Tybee Island YMCA’s Rising TYde Community Food Pantry.

At her recent birthday party, Katie, a third grader at St. Peter The Apostle School on Wilmington Island, requested that her guests bring non-perishable food items in lieu of birthday presents for her. As a result, Katie was able to make a large donation to the Rising TYde Community Food Pantry, which feeds Tybee Island residents in need.

Katie was also awarded the YMCA Social Responsibility Award and the City of Tybee Island Certificate of Community Appreciation.

“The Tybee YMCA is extremely proud of Katie and her dedication to social responsibility toward the Rising TYde Community Food Pantry and the Tybee community,” said Gina Casagrande, executive branch director of the Tybee Island YMCA.
