Local CPA to Speak about New Tax Law for Families with Disabilities at Next Lowcounty Down Syndrome Society Meeting

(POOLER, GA) The Lowcountry Down Syndrome Society (LDSS) announces Rob Cordasco, CPA as the featured speaker for the group’s monthly meeting on Tuesday, March 22 at 6:30 p.m. at Benedictine Military School. The meeting, designed to educate and support families in the area, is free and open to the public. Cordasco will address new tax laws for families with disabilities.

In 2014, the ABLE (Achieving a Better Life Experience) Act became law and was a great victory for people and families with different abilities. This new law allows families to set up tax-free savings accounts without jeopardizing their eligibility for Medicaid and Social Security benefits. In addition to discussing the importance of these ABLE accounts, the meeting will focus on planning for long term financial needs, specifics of funding limits, eligibility requirements and qualified expenses.

“Parents of children with different abilities are often unaware of possible tax benefits that are available,” said Cordasco. “My goal is to answer any questions they may have and make tax time a little less stressful.”

Cordasco is a Certified Public Accountant and Certified Information Technology Professional with 30 years of experience in public accounting. In early 2007, he began Cordasco & Company, a boutique tax and accounting firm in Savannah. The firm provides high-end tax and accounting services to small and mid-sized businesses and their owners. Cordasco is licensed to practice in Georgia and Alabama. He is a member of the American Institute of CPAs, the Georgia Society of CPAs and the Alabama Society of CPAs.
