New LEED Certification for Trident Sustainability Group

Mercer University Admissions and Welcome Center in Macon, GA will be a Trident Sustainability Group new LEED certification.

(SAVANNAH, GA)  Trident Sustainability Group announces a new LEED certification – Mercer University Admissions and Welcome Center in Macon, GA.

The Mercer University Admissions and Welcome Center achieved LEED Gold certification from the US Green Building Council, and is Mercer University’s first LEED certified project. Trident Sustainability Group served as the LEED consultant for the project.

The new facility provides a showcase in sustainability to new and prospective students to the University. The project is a blend of new construction and historic preservation, with the existing building from the late 1800’s completely restored and combined with a new addition that seamlessly showcases 21st century design strategies with 19th century aesthetics. Numerous sustainable features were included such as a high efficiency, variable speed HVAC system, low flow plumbing fixtures, super efficient lighting tied to occupancy sensors, and low emitting finishes that were used throughout. All stormwater is managed on site, and tree preservation and native landscaping surround the project.

"This project showcase’s Mercer University’s commitment to sustainability", said Tommy Linstroth, Principal of Trident Sustainability Group. "The LEED Gold Welcome and Admissions Center will be prospective students’ first exposure to the University and the effort put into the sustainable features of this project will resonate with many of the visitors.”

The architect for the project was Dunwody Beeland, and the general contractor was Chris R. Sheridan, both located in Macon.
