Case Veterinary Hospital, who is preparing to kick off its countdown to 100 years in service, was named the 2008 Business of the Year at a luncheon held Tuesday. The Savannah Small Business Chamber (SBC) selected Case Veterinary Hospital out of all eligible candidates based on a process spearheaded by the organization’s Awards Selection Committee. Annual award luncheon is the flagship event for the SBC with Business of the Year being its highest honor.

“They met every single one of the criteria,” says 2007 SBC President, Carol Kirchner. Eligibility requirements state that the nominee under consideration must have at least three years in business. Case Veterinary Hospital handles this area solidly. Currently owned and operated by third and fourth generation veterinarians, Dr. Jerry Case and Dr. Carla Case-McCorvey, they were founded in 1909 by Dr. Case-McCorvey’s great-grandfather, Erle Case. Other competitive criteria included, “exemplary customer service, outstanding utilization of technology, support of small business and community-minded action.”

Case Veterinary Hospital’s award nomination spoke to all of these areas. Innovative medical techniques that allow for faster healing and healthier pets, dedication to remaining in the forefront of veterinary medicine education and active involvement with local charities were some of the items of merit. While presenting the award, SBC 2008 President, Allen Edwards noted, “This year’s Small Business of the year embraced changes to succeed in not only surviving for the last century but improving the impact of its business towards its clients. Like her father, her grandfather and her great grandfather, she has improved and saved the lives of our best friends.”

Dr. Case and Dr. Case-McCorvey accepted the award at Tuesday’s luncheon held at the Savannah Riverfront Marriott. Most of the Case Veterinary staff was on hand to join in the celebration. “This is sort of a passing of the torch meeting for us and it comes at an especially good time with us reaching 100 years next year,” said Dr. Case when accepting the award. He added that, “Carla is the fourth generation and that is a record in the country.”

Dr. Case-McCorvey accepted the award on behalf of the entire staff stating, “I couldn’t do it without you there by my side.” While she could not promise her children would follow in her footsteps, “I will promise you that we do realize and understand the responsibility and the honor that it is to take care of your pets. We understand they are members of the family like they never have been in history. We thank you for that.”
