For one week this May, animal welfare workers and volunteers from around the world will invade Orlando, and thanks to a local restaurant owner, so will six Coastal Pet Rescue volunteers.
Matt Cohen of The New South Cafe believes in the hard work and successes of Coastal Pet Rescue and has given a $1,000 sponsorship to send six leadership team members to the Humane Society of the United States Animal Care Expo.
From May 13 to 17, Coastal Pet Rescue volunteers Lisa Scarbrough, Wendy Owens, Heather Erwin, Michelle Still, Ashley Davis and Meg Lester will attend workshops on animal welfare issues such as proper animal care and training, working with communities to encourage responsible pet ownership, and helping adopters make the best decisions.
Attendance at the HSUS Animal Care Expo will also provide the volunteers opportunities to interact with others from around the world to exchange ideas and methods to increase the organization’s successes.
In December, Coastal Pet Rescue president and founder Lisa Scarbrough was selected by the HSUS to conduct a workshop at the conference to instruct animal welfare organizations on how to utilize their websites to increase donations and participation.
Additional sponsorships are still needed for the group’s travel expenses. Businesses interested in making a contribution may contact Lisa Scarbrough at lisa@coastalpetrescue.org or 912.228.3538.
Founded in February 2003, Coastal Pet Rescue is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3)non-profit organization dedicated to saving the lives of homeless, abused and neglected animals in the Coastal Empire Savannah and Lowcountry South Carolina areas.
