SAVANNAH MALL ANNOUNCES OPENING OF SIX LOCALLY OWNED BUSINESSES

By | Local NewsWIRE | No Comments

(SAVANNAH, GA) The Savannah Mall is pleased to announce that six locally owned businesses have opened since June. The new businesses include Aqua Swim Store, Dear Cupcakes, Relentless Records, Pete’s Italian Ice, the Nutty Bavarian and Vapors Smoke Shop.

“We are proud to have a number of local businesses call the Savannah Mall home,” said Savannah Mall General Manager Phil McConnell. “The new local businesses that have joined the Savannah Mall family in the last six months offer a variety of goods and services that appeal to both old and new customers.”

Suzanne Williams, owner of Aqua Swim Store, said her customer base has tripled since moving her retail shop to the Savannah Mall in May.

“It’s amazing how much the business has grown since we’ve been here. We haven’t had to do any marketing or advertising,” said Williams, noting that the reasonable rent and high traffic were what initially lured her to the Savannah Mall. “Where we were before, it was difficult for customers to find us, and here it’s been simple.”

Located on the lower level near Bass Pro Shop, Aqua Swim Store specializes in swimwear for swimmers, lifeguards, swim instructors, swim teams, aquatic therapists, aquatic aerobics classes and more.

Williams said that the Savannah Mall’s location has given her store greater exposure, drawing new customers from Statesboro, Brunswick and other surrounding areas who travel to Savannah to do their mall shopping. In addition, Aqua Swim Store has benefitted from its location near I-95.

“We sell a lot of items to everyone traveling up and down I-95, especially people going to and from Disney World,” said Williams, who added specialty merchandise such as boogie boards and recreational swimwear to appeal to her new demographic.

Delores Young, owner of The Nutty Bavarian, said that her business has done well since opening in Mid-June and appreciates the enthusiasm of the Savannah Mall’s management team and its support for local businesses.

“The Savannah Mall is small-business friendly in terms of meeting our needs. The staff, from the janitorial service to the security service, is hands-on and that’s welcome,” Young said.

This is Young’s second Savannah location for The Nutty Bavarian. Her Savannah Mall store, located on the lower level in the Burlington Coat Factory wing, features fresh-roasted, cinnamon-glazed nuts made from a special Bavarian recipe, in addition to an array of locally and regionally made products such as Savannah Bee Company honey, Byrd’s Famous Cookies and Prissy’s of Vidalia products. The Nutty Bavarian also boasts a healthy snack bar to cater to customers of the Savannah Mall’s fitness centers, along with coffee, pastries and other items.

The four additional businesses that have opened in the Savannah Mall offer a variety of goods and services.

Dear Cupcakes, owned by Leona Gabriel, is located on the lower level in the Dillard’s wing. The shop offers a rotating selection of cupcakes, in addition to vegan, allergy-free and gluten-free varieties. Dear Cupcakes also carries fresh cookies, pretzels, coffee and cold drinks.

Relentless Records, owned by Tim Salley, is located on the lower level in the Burlington Coat Factory wing. The music production and recording studio specializes in recording, sound engineering and artist development in all genres of music.

Pete’s Italian Ice, owned by Jeffery Roberson, is located on the second level in the Food Court and offers several flavors of the sweet frozen dessert.

Vapors Smoke Shop, owned by Chris Daye, is located on the second level near the Food Court. The store sells pipes, tobacco, e-cigs, hookas and more.

About the Savannah Mall

The Savannah Mall, located at 14045 Abercorn Street, features anchor stores Bass Pro Shops, Dillard’s, Target, Burlington Coat Factory and A.C. Moore. The 960,000-square-foot, two-level mall, which opened in 1990, is also home to national retailers including Victoria’s Secret, Bath & Body Works, Gymboree, Game Stop, Champs, Claire’s, Hibbet Sporting Goods, Finish Line, Kay Jewelers, Marks & Morgan Jewelers, Shoe Dept., Zales Jewelers, Rue 21 and Cato. The Savannah Mall also boasts a growing number of locally owned businesses, among them Savannah Piano, LiveOak Orchids, Fitness Emporium, Aqua Swim Store, Relentless Records and Vapors Smoke Shop. Virginia College, located on the lower level of the Savannah Mall, offers a variety of classes in areas such as cosmetology, medical billing, culinary arts, business, healthcare and more.

The Savannah Mall’s Food Court features a diverse selection of eateries, including Chick-fil-a, Savannah Gyro, Sbarro Italian Eatery, China Max, Sakkio Japan, Cajun Café and Subway. Other dining options at the mall include Ruby Tuesdays and Texas Roadhouse, along with Savannah Candy Co., Cold Stone Creamery, Dear Cupcakes, the Nutty Bavarian and Pete’s Italian Ice. The Savannah Mall has a number of attractions for children, among them a double-decker carousel in the Food Court and soft play area on the lower level.

A $72,600 grant is going toward a community disease management program

By | Local NewsWIRE | No Comments

(SAVANNAH, GA) A $72,600 grant funded by the United Way of the Coastal Empire is going toward a community disease management program.

The program will help 200 high risk diabetic patients and 200 patients with congestive heart failure over a 1 year period.

The program will bring together several medical groups, community resources, and technology to help educate patients.

“The ultimate goal of this program is to ensure the best possible health for all of our patients.  Close care coordination and very affordable and easy to use electronic tools that fit the lifestyle of our patients and assist with the workflow of the care team will be key to the success of the program,” said Leon Burton, Executive Director, Curtis V. Cooper Primary Care Health Center.

Also included in the program is a Transitional Care Discharge Program.  The TCDP is aimed at improving patient and health care provider communication once the patient is discharged.

Diabetes and heart failure are chronic health conditions characterized by high mortality and frequent hospitalizations.  “Community Health Mission’s intervention will help CCSNPC providers better manage their patients, and increase the time between hospital discharge and readmission or death, reduce the total number of rehospitalizations, and decrease health care costs,” said Areatha Jones, Executive Director of J.C. Lewis Primary Care Center.
