By | Local NewsWIRE, Savannah, Georgia Public Relations Firm, PR Agency

(SAVANNAH, GA) Horizons Savannah will hold the annual Summer Sizzler 5K Race on Saturday, June 25 at JC Canon Fields on Wilmington Island. The race will begin at 8 a.m. The 2016 Summer Sizzler is the only professionally timed 5K race in the Savannah area in the month of June.

In past years, the race has drawn participants from all over the low-country area from novice and beginner runners to exceptional athletes of all ages. Fleet Feet Savannah manages this race and timing is provided by the Savannah Striders, lending a professional and organized feel to the experience. The course winds its way around beautiful Wilmington Island and is mostly shaded through quiet neighborhoods.

The finish line party is a family friendly event that includes cool summer treats and a special awards presentation to age group winners. In place of traditional medals, winners are given summer themed ceramic medals generously donated by Starlight Pottery and hand painted by Horizons students in our summer program.

The addition of a Kid’s 1 Mile Run in 2016 will encourage children to be active and bring the sport of running to a new generation. All finishers of the Kid’s 1 Mile will get a medal to paint and decorate at the finish line party.

This event is sponsored by Mingledorff’s Inc., a leading provider of top-quality HVAC equipment and supplies.

Pre-event registration is $25; race day registration is $30. For the Kid’s 1 Mile, registration is $5. For more information about the Summer Sizzler 5K, contact Sue Adler at 912-856-0323. Register for the race at fleetfeetsavannah.com/summersizzler

LEFT TO RIGHT: Michael Holton and Joe Marchese

(SAVANNAH, GA) Lowcountry Down Syndrome Society (LDSS) is pleased to announce the 2016 Board of Directors will include its first self-advocate, Michael Holton, Jr. The Effingham County native is a graduate of South Effingham High School, where he was crowned 2013 Homecoming King.

Holton currently works as an Environmental Services Technician at Effingham County Hospital in the Environmental Service Department. Born with Down syndrome, Holton is a former recipient of the LDSS Night of Champions award and has also won numerous gold medals for horseback riding in the Special Olympics.

Self-advocacy is an important term in the disability rights movement, referring to people with disabilities taking control of their own lives, including being in charge of their own care in the medical system. In the most basic terms, the self-advocacy movement is about people with different abilities speaking up for themselves. It means that although a person with different abilities may call upon the support of others, the individual is entitled to be in control of his own resources and how they are directed. It is about having the right to make life decisions without undue influence or control by others.

In addition to Holton’s appointment, LDSS is pleased to welcome new members Jason Ambrose and Tom Kenkel to the 2016 Board.

Candy Bogardus will serve as president of the 2016 Board. She is a founding member of LDSS and has been a member of the Board since its inception in 2006, most recently serving in an executive role as president in 2014. Dr. Ben Spitalnick has been appointed as vice president, Traci Shreck will serve as secretary, and Brian Hussey was reappointed as the organization’s treasurer. Immediate past president Joe Marchese will continue to serve the Board in that position.

For more information, contact Candy Bogardus at jcbogardus@gmail.com or Brian Hussey at brian@savannahprofessionalmaint.com.

Coastal Divorce Advisors, An Affiliate of Coastal Capital Management, Cuts Ribbon on New Office in Historic Downtown Savannah

(SAVANNAH, GA) Coastal Divorce Advisors, LLC recently launched in Savannah and held a ribbon cutting and grand opening ceremony at their new office, located at 21 East York Street. The goal of the firm is to provide clients with the support and guidance they need to make intelligent, unemotional financial decisions as they navigate the divorce process.

“We serve as the financial expert on the divorce team, working hand in hand with our client’s divorce attorney to guide our clients through the complex process of dividing the marital assets and finances,” Sam Hubbard, MBA, CFA, CDFA, who is both founder and principal of the firm. “Since 80 to 85 percent of a divorce is about the financials, it just makes sense to let an expert in divorce financial planning help you move forward with confidence.”

Coastal Divorce Advisors analyzes the assets and considers potential tax implications, evaluates settlement options, and provides short-term and long-term projections to enable the attorney to negotiate the most favorable settlement agreement.

“We also provide expert witness testimony in court to further support your case,” remarked Hubbard. “This helps level the playing field for spouses who may be less involved with the family finances.”

Prior to founding Coastal Divorce Advisors, Hubbard was a financial advisor at Merrill Lynch Wealth Management in New York City, where he developed financial plans, asset allocation models, and appropriate investment strategies for high-net-worth clients.

Born and raised in Savannah, Hubbard graduated from St. Andrew’s School. He received a BA from Furman University in Greenville, SC, and an MBA, with a dual concentration in finance and management, from Fordham University in New York City.
