Goodwill is Thankful for Outstanding Opening
(SAVANNAH/ RICHMOND HILL) – Goodwill Industries of the Coastal Empire opened their newest location in Richmond Hill with overwhelming support from the community. Moreover, treasure hunters and die-hard Goodwill fans traveled great distances, as far away as Tifton, to experience opening day events and quality merchandise offered. In a four-day grand opening event, retail executives noted all expectations were exceeded. More than 3,000 customers traveled from around the Coastal Empire to view Goodwill’s newest retail location and career center training facility.
Total earnings for the weekend surpassed past openings and average weekend sales with more than 22,000 items sold in the four-day grand opening event. The sales of donated items provide revenue for Goodwill’s programs as well as help provide employment in the community for individuals with disabilities and other barriers to employment.
Employees were pleasantly surprised on grand opening day, (Thursday) March 29 when lines stretched around the building. The Richmond Hill Mayor and City Council were also pleased to see more than 1,000 shoppers come out to view the nearly 20,000 square foot facility. The economic impact in Richmond Hill will be significant to the growth and prosperity in the community. If you haven’t had an opportunity to check out this location, it’s definitely a worthwhile trip to Richmond Hill to see the future of Goodwill’s retail stores and utilize the employment training services offered by the Career Center located on the second floor.
Donations that are collected are sorted and prepared for sale by Goodwill employees, who gain valuable work experience in the process of collecting, sorting, distributing and selling gently used merchandise. Goodwill provides employment to nearly 600 employees throughout the Coastal Empire in its 13 retail stores, career centers, business services and donation centers.
