Dr. Nandi A. Marshall has been elected to sit on the
American Public Health Association’s Executive Leadership Board. With a membership of 25,000 public health professionals, the organization is committed to building a healthier nation in one generation. A public health professor at Georgia Southern University, Dr. Marshall recently facilitated a Photovoice project to identify social, cultural, and physical barriers that discourage breastfeeding by African American mothers in Chatham County and the opportunities to remove those obstacles. The findings were published in a photo book, “Savannah H.O.P.E. Photovoice Project,” documenting personal experiences from local African-American mothers. The project was also recognized by the
National Association of County and City Health Officials, which represents the nation’s nearly 3,000 local governmental health departments.
