(WSAV) One local business is creating an app to help underserved communities in the area stay healthy. Savannah-based AdMoER Inc. created a system you can download to your device that will help protect the most vulnerable from contagions like COVID-19 and the flu. AdMoER Inc. is partnering with Healthy Savannah to target community members the system could be most useful for.

SAVANNAH ROTARY DISTRICT 6920 DONATES MEDICINE TO ST. MARY’S CLINIC

(SAVANNAH, GA) Savannah Rotary Clubs and Brunswick-based MAP International teamed up to deliver life-saving medicine at no cost to Savannah’s community medical clinics operated by St. Joseph’s/Candler.

NEW SPEAKER SERIES

HEALTHY MOMENT – FLU EDUCATION

TUESDAY WALKS

(WSAV) The Healthy Savannah team is encouraging the community to get up and get active with them on their weekly Tuesday Healthy Walks. Join them on Facebook Live or explore their routes on your own using the new Healthy Walks map. The next healthy walk is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 9th at Whitfield Square at Habersham between Taylor & Gordon. Walkers will head west through the subsequent three squares then head back up the four squares just to the north.

WHAT’S SO HOT ABOUT HYDROTHERMAL VENTS?

(SAVANNAH, GA) UGA Skidaway Institute researcher Natalie Cohen will explore hydrothermal vents in a virtual Evening @ Skidaway program, titled “What’s so hot about hydrothermal vents?” on Tuesday, March 9, at 7 p.m. virtually via Zoom. Until they were first discovered in the 1970s, scientists had no idea of the existence of hydrothermal vents in the ocean floor and the unique biological communities that surround them. Hydrothermal vents occur in the ocean where magma from the earth’s interior rises towards the seafloor. In her talk, Cohen will explore these massive structures, their chemical contributions to seawater and the complex food webs they sustain in the deep, dark ocean. PROPOSED TAX

(SAVANNAHNOW.COM) Savannah’s visitors could soon be paying more for their overnight stay through a 2% increase in the city’s hotel/motel tax. Savannah City Council adopted a resolution to bump the levy from 6% to 8% during their meeting last week. The measure now goes to the Georgia General Assembly for consideration and approval.
