(SAVANNAH, GA) Enmarket and Healthy Savannah announce the four nonprofit organizations that will receive the $1000 grants during the 2016 Encourage Health Series will be the Coastal Georgia Council of Boy Scouts of America, Savannah AMBUCS, Savannah Tree Foundation and Urban Hope, Inc.
Boy Scouts of America
While 25 of 136 merit badges directly reward physical activity for participating in swimming, camping, cycling or another activity, the Coastal Georgia Council, Boy Scouts of America also reaches beyond the boys and encourages their families to get involved as well. The Boy Scout Oath outlines the ideals the organization strives to uphold and one of the lines reads, “to keep myself physically strong.”
Savannah AMBUCS
Savannah AMBUCS was selected because of their efforts to support healthy living through the adaptation of bikes for people with different abilities. By showing individuals how a three wheeled bike can work for them, the organization improves their physical, mental, and emotional well being.
The Savannah Tree Foundation
The Savannah Tree Foundation benefits individuals as well as the environment. Their mission is to plant, protect and preserve the trees of Chatham County. These trees benefit our overall health by providing fresh air, creating more walking friendly neighborhoods, cleaning out our waterways, and providing shade from the sun in the hot summer months.
Urban Hope, Inc.
Urban Hope, Inc. is focused on helping the inner city children in Savannah create better lives for themselves. Through the funding of the Encourage Health grant, Urban Hope plans to hold a free, eight-week summer yoga camp for their Kindergarten-Eigth graders. These yoga classes would promote physical and mental health and provide both instructors and children with a beneficial program.
“We had many deserving organizations participate in the Facebook contest this year,” said Matt Clements, Marketing Director at enmarket. “We believe these groups will help promote and further our enriching lives initiative through the various programs they have set up in our community.”
Any Savannah area registered 501c3 nonprofit organization with a mission to promote healthy living, active lifestyles or nutritional education, was encouraged to enter the Facebook competition.
In addition to the grant, all four recipients will be able to increase the support for their cause by being awarded an enmarket Dollar Day where they receive $1 for every car wash and donations from enmarket customers at the registers and charity table.
At the end of the series, one of the four selected nonprofit organizations will also receive an additional $1000 grand prize. Each organization will receive their own QR code to be scanned with purchases at any of the 61 enmarket stores. The organization with the highest number of scans will win the final check to be given out at the last Encourage Health presentation.
The Encourage Health Series will feature four presentations throughout the year, from the area’s most respected experts sharing insights on nutrition, fitness and general tips for healthy living. The series is sponsored by: enmarket, Healthy Savannah, Savannah Morning News, Savannah Magazine and GPB Savannah – WSVH 91.1/WWIO 89.9.
