Savannah Earth Day Festival Announced for April 21 in Forsyth Park
Several Eco-Friendly Exhibits and Speakers Announced and Junkluggers of the Coastal Empire Offering Free E-waste Recycling

(SAVANNAH, GA) Savannah’s annual Earth Day Festival will be held on Saturday, April 21 between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. in Forsyth Park. Celebrating the environmentally responsible community living and working in coastal Georgia, this event is the City’s largest environmental outreach event of the year, and one of the largest education event in conjunction with Earth Day in Georgia.

This year marks the first year the festival is produced by the Savannah Chatham Sustainability Coalition (SCSC) sponsored by Junkluggers of the Coastal Empire and the City of Savannah.

With the theme set as “Zero Waste”, the event will have exhibits raising awareness of the amount of plastic that we use and toss away in our daily life.

Junkluggers of the Coastal Empire will have a special exhibit where they will be collecting electronic waste, such as computers, televisions, monitors, printers, fax machines, small household appliances, and cell phones. The Earth Day Festival will also include free workshops, including one from Trevor Hess, the owner of Junkluggers of the Coastal Empire, presenting “Waste to Wealth: How to Use the Three R’s (Reducing, Reusing and Recycling) to Your Advantage.”

There will also be two “Energy Efficiency” workshops by McCalls HVAC and GA Power as well “Zero Waste Clean Food Choices” by Palmetto Plant Eaters Club & Lowcountry VegFest. Popular favorite workshops are returning as well: Dispelling the Fear of Snakes!, Wild Medicinal Mushrooms and Protecting the Bees.

There will also be a special presentation from Miss SE Earth contestant, Talisha White presenting her youth workshop on the importance of water conservation, “Miraculous Miranda the Mermaid.” All of the workshops will begin at 11 a.m. and are free to the public.

The festival will also be displaying energy efficient cars from Savannah Toyota and a solar-powered food truck, Kona Ice, as well as the Children’s Garden mobile garden and the Savannah Bicycle Campaign bike valet.

Fox & Fig Cafe, the festival food sponsor will be selling canned water. Proceeds for these sales go to the Earth Day Festival. Beer is provided by Moon River and proceeds beer sales support the Ogeechee Riverkeepers.
