(SAVANNAH, GA) Healthy Savannah is providing $2,450 in grant funding to support health equity education and awareness at two upcoming Savannah area events.

• Back-to-School Youth Health Fair is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 26 at Historic First Bryan Baptist Church, located at 575 W. Bryan St., in downtown Savannah.

• Back-to-School Community Block Party 2023 is planned for 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug 26 at Greater Gaines Chapel AME Church, located at 1006 May St. in downtown Savannah.

(SAVANNAH, GA) Healthy Savannah is pleased to announce the conclusion of a two-month internship program that helped foster community involvement in making Savannah a healthier place to live, work and play. Summer interns Alejandra Moreno Arreola and Kellie Arnold gathered community feedback from more than 200 surveys, actively participated in numerous community engagement events and created social media content during the program.

(COASTAL PET RESCUE) Stormy was one of a group of dogs that were dumped in Midway and were trapped and rescued by one of our volunteers. It has taken Stormy a while to come around with our volunteers, but after some patient daily contact, he has started to show his playful personality. Being a long-haired dog, he was a hot mess after being in the woods for several days and was just recently groomed close to allow his coat to start over. We believe that Stormy could be a shih tzu/terrier mix. He is learning to be playful with people and has always gotten along with the smaller dogs at our facility. Trust is something that an adopter will need to earn from Stormy, but we believe he will be an affectionate playful boy with the right owner. Due to the nature of his previous life and the known fact he is a runner, A SECURELY FENCED YARD IS REQUIRED.

Savannah is endowed with a rich cultural heritage, and Historic Savannah Foundation needs volunteers to help tell its story by leading tours through the historic 1820s Davenport House Museum. Docent training classes are held twice a week, on Monday & Wednesday, September 6, 11, 13, 18, 20, 25, 27 from 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Volunteers who complete the training typically work two shifts per month.
