ANNUAL CELEBRATION OF WORLD BREASTFEEDING WEEK

(COASTAL HEALTH DISTRICT) Breastfeeding moms, their families, and community supporters attended the Coastal Health District’s annual World Breastfeeding Week celebration on Saturday, August 3. The family-friendly event was held from 9-11 a.m. in Forsyth Park in Savannah and included a walk to support breastfeeding. Breastfeeding is the best source of nutrition for most infants and can lower a baby’s risk of certain health conditions. Breast milk is easy to digest, with just the right amount of fat, sugar, water, and protein for a baby’s growth and development. Breastfed babies usually get sick less often because breast milk contains antibodies that can protect infants from bacterial and viral infections. But breastfeeding moms need more support at home, in the workplace, and in the community. That’s why World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated every year to highlight the benefits of breastfeeding and the need for community support. For more information about local breastfeeding support services or to register for the World Breastfeeding Week event, visit coastalhealthdistrict.org/breastfeeding.
