LOWCOUNTRY DOWN SYNDROME SOCIETY ANNOUNCES 14TH ANNUAL CAMP BUDDY IN CHATHAM COUNTY, JULY 10-14, 2023

(CHATHAM COUNTY) The Lowcountry Down Syndrome Society (LDSS) will be hosting its 14th annual Camp Buddy summer camp for Chatham County on July 10-14 at St. Andrews School, located at 601 Penn Waller Rd, on Wilmington Island. Camp Buddy is for children of all ages with Down syndrome and is designed to help students prepare for the upcoming school year with a specially designed curriculum.

HSF SEEKING PRESERVATION-MINDED BUYER FOR KIAH HOUSE PROPERTY

(SAVANNAH, GA) Historic Savannah Foundation (HSF) is seeking a devoted preservation-minded buyer to rehabilitate The Kiah House property located at 505 W. 36th Street within the Cuyler-Brownville National Register Historic District. The Kiah house, constructed ca. 1913, was remodeled in 1959 by Virginia West Jackson Kiah and Dr. Calvin Lycurgus Kiah, pioneers in the black cultural and museum movement. The home was utilized as the nationally recognized Kiah Museum, the first African American museum in Savannah until its closing in 1998. After sitting in probate for over 20 years, HSF purchased the property in 2022 with the intent to ensure the rehabilitation of the property and its continued use within the community. YMCA OF COASTAL GEORGIA HONORS COMMUNITY LEADERS WITH SERVICE AWARDS AT ITS 16TH ANNUAL MEETING

(SAVANNAH, GA) At its 168th annual meeting on May 16, the YMCA of Coastal Georgia presented honors to community leaders and volunteers who went above and beyond to support the Y mission in 2022. These honorees included a presentation of a Community Builder Award to Ervenia Bowers, a devoted volunteer who actively involves herself in connecting information and resources to underserved neighborhoods. A regular volunteer at one of the YMCA’s Fresh Express no-cost food distribution sites, Bowers also collects and hand-delivers fresh groceries to home-bound seniors on the west side of Savannah. She has contributed extra items to the Fresh Express program at her own expense including hand sanitizer, cleaning wipes, PPE and 2023 calendars; and goes above and beyond by acting as a megaphone and advocate for the YMCA of Coastal Georgia, the REACH grant, and for partner Healthy Savannah.

YMCA OF COASTAL GEORGIA CHOOSES SUZANNE DUGGAN AS ANNUAL CAMPAIGN DIRECTOR

THELMA NEEDS A HOME

(COASTAL PET RESCUE) Thelma and her litter mates were born at animal control and pulled when one day old for rescue. Momma (Heidi) is a medium sized boxer mix, but no clue on the daddy for the litter. Thelma is affectionate with people – she loves to nuzzle and give puppy kisses. Thelma is currently the smallest of the litter. Thelma is spayed and current on shots for her age. She just started potty training and is trying really hard. Thelma is being crate trained and sleeps soundly all night.

THE COLOR PURPLE

GIRLS CODE SUMMER CAMP

(SAVANNAH, GA) The Creative Coast has opened registration for Girls Code Summer Camp, which will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day, July 10 to 14 at the Georgia Southern University Armstrong campus in Savannah. In its second year, camp is 100% free for 5th to 8th-grade girls enrolled within the Savannah Chatham County Public School System.
