RESILIENT COASTAL GEORGIA ANNOUNCES 2024 STEERING COMMITTEE

(SAVANNAH, Ga.) Resilient Coastal Georgia announced the Steering Committee leadership for 2024 at its Steering Committee meeting held on February 12. The regional group that aims to build resilience and a trauma-informed community across coastal counties will be co-chaired by Holly Whitfield, executive director, Deep Center; and Lizann Roberts, executive director, Coastal Georgia Indicators Coalition. Resilient Coastal Georgia is an initiative of the Coastal Georgia Indicators Coalition and works with community partners to provide training sessions for groups and individuals who work directly with children and youth and hosts mental wellness and trust-building events and spaces for young people.

This free event was offered especially for families with Medicaid/PeachCare for Kids® and those who may have questions about their health coverage. COASTAL GEORGIA INDICATORS AWARDED A 50K OPERATIONAL GRANT FROM THE ARTHUR M. BLANK FOUNDATION

(SAVANNAH, Ga.) Coastal Georgia Indicators Coalition (CGIC), a Savannah area organization focused on improving community well-being by engaging and leading the community to work collectively, has been awarded a $50,000 operational grant from the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation. CGIC will use the grant money to develop an enhanced communication plan leveraging various channels and media outlets to share information about upcoming activities, stakeholder engagement, and community support.

HEALTHY SAVANNAH ANNOUNCES NEW DIRECTION IN COMMUNITY HEALTH ADVOCATE TRAINING ON APRIL 6

(SAVANNAH, Ga.) Healthy Savannah and the YMCA of Coastal Georgia invite community members interested in health equity to an in-person panel discussion and training event from 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 6 at the Vaden Automotive corporate office building at 12020 Abercorn in Savannah. The session will also be streamed live on Healthy Savannah’s Facebook page. A 90-minute training session for those interested in becoming Community Health Advocates (CHAs) will follow the panel discussion. RESILIENT COASTAL GEORGIA OFFERS FREE COMMUNITY RESILIENCY MODEL TRAINING

NATIONAL EARLY LANGUAGE AND LITERACY EXPERT EMILY RUBIN TRAINS TEACHERS TO MENTOR

(SAVANNAH, Ga.) Active classroom engagement is at the heart of children’s learning. Co-developer of the SEE-KS approach, national early language and literacy expert Emily Rubin returned to Savannah on March 7 to lead a second training session with local educators. Rubin offered freely accessible tools for measuring learner engagement, enhancing engagement in everyday settings and academic instruction, and empowering educators to sustain the work through peer to peer mentorship. About 75 local educators attended the training, presented by Coastal Georgia Indicators Coalition, United Way of the Coastal Empire and the Savannah Chatham County Public School System.

MENINGOCOCCAL VACCINE CLINIC

(CHATHAM CO., GA) The Chatham County Health Department is hosting two after-school meningitis vaccine clinics for rising high school juniors in April and May. All students in Georgia who are at least 16 years of age are required to have a meningococcal booster shot when entering 11th grade. Students can be denied school entry in the fall if vaccinations aren’t up to date. The meningococcal booster shot events will be held April 25th and May 2nd from 3-6 p.m. at the Eisenhower Clinic at 1395 Eisenhower Drive. Appointments are required.
