FREE MAMMOGRAMS ON MARCH 25
(COASTAL HEALTH DISTRICT) Free mammograms will be available by appointment for eligible women at the Chatham County Health Department on March 25, 2025. The St. Joseph/Candler Mobile Mammography Unit will be in the parking lot of the main health department clinic at 1395 Eisenhower Drive from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. The no-cost screenings are open to women aged 40 and older without health insurance coverage.

HEALTHY SAVANNAH CELEBRATES COMMUNITY IMPACT OF YEAR-LONG HPV VACCINATION EQUITY PROGRAM
(SAVANNAH, Ga.) Healthy Savannah has spent the past year working to change cervical cancer mortality rates among Black women in Chatham County, which are almost one and a half times as high as they are among white women. Through a one-year grant provided by CHC: Creating Healthier Communities to elevate awareness of the HPV vaccine and its prevention interventions for certain cancers, the organization focused on public education; offering public listening sessions, round table discussions and training opportunities in HPV awareness methodologies. Now it appears those efforts are making a difference.

(WTOC) The PUMP for Nursing Mothers Act was passed more than two years ago, but Healthy Savannah and the Gateway Community Service Board are partnering to bring new attention to the law to help build breastfeeding-friendly communities. PUMP requires workplaces with 50 or more employees to provide a safe, private space for mothers to breastfeed or pump breast milk. Time must also be provided to mothers during their work day.
