HSF’S SEPTEMBER LECTURE FOCUSES ON SAVANNAH TREE CANOPY

(SAVANNAH, GA) Zoe Rinker, executive director of the Savannah Tree Foundation, will speak on “Savannah’s Urban Forest: Past, Present, and Future,” when the Historic Savannah Foundation convenes on Sep. 21 at 6 p.m. for its monthly lecture at the Murray C. Perlman & Wayne C. Spear Preservation Center, 323 E. Broughton St. Admission is free for HSF members, and $15 for non-members.

FIRST EVER PLAYING WITH FOOD EVENT

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV)- The Greenbriar Children`s Center hosted a community nutrition event called “Playing with Food” on Saturday. The forum was set up to explore the benefits of healthy eating and wellness in children up to 5 years old. Forsyth Farmers` Market, Georgia Department of Early Care & Learning, and Healthy Savannah also served as co-sponsors of this event.

MISSY NEEDS A HOME

(COASTAL PET RESCUE) From her foster mom: Missy is super sweet and it is evident she has been loved her entire life. Missy loves back scratches, walks around our yard, squeaky toys and quiet naps. She will cuddle up in the chair with us or get cozy in her own bed. She has a little spunk for an older girl and plays alongside our other dogs and cats. Missy weighs 16 lbs. is housebroken and sleeps on her bed in the kitchen.

LIVE OAK PUBLIC LIBRARY LENDS A HEALTHY H.E.R.O. HAND

(SAVANNAH, GA) Healthy Savannah recently facilitated a training session for Live Oak Public Library staff to become more proficient in utilizing, navigating, and sharing the HERO Help Me database with members of the community in more effective ways. More than two dozen staff members from across 12 branches in the Savannah/Chatham County Area participated. This training was recorded and is expected to be edited into a “How To” video that will be posted and made available for library users to access. Officially called the Health Effective Resource Organizations, or HERO, database, the online health and social services network offers Savannah-Chatham County residents a one-stop powerhouse of resources, agencies and programs across 57 categories with the aim of closing the referral loop and empowering those living in low-income neighborhoods to be their own health heroes with access to a one-stop, all-inclusive resource.

BUDDY WALK AND $33,000 CAR RAFFLE DRAWING OCTOBER 7 IN FORSYTH PARK

(SAVANNAH, GA) The Lowcountry Down Syndrome Society’s 18th Annual Buddy Walk and $33,000 car raffle drawing is scheduled for Saturday, Oct 7, in Forsyth Park, starting at 10:00 a.m. Participants will walk a mile around Forsyth Park and then kick off the Family Fun Event with the raffle drawing and announcement of raffle winner. Registration for the Buddy Walk is $15. The money raised at the Buddy Walk goes toward Camp Buddy, summer camps in Effingham and Chatham Counties to help students retain their skills over the summer break. DAVENPORT HOUSE MUSEUM DOCENT TRAINING

(SAVANNAH, GA) Are you interested in history? Savannah is endowed with a rich cultural heritage, and Historic Savannah Foundation needs volunteers to help tell its story by leading tours through the historic 1820s Davenport House Museum. Docent training classes are held twice a week, on Monday & Wednesday, September 18, 20, 25, 27 from 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Volunteers who complete the training typically work two shifts per month.
