FISHH Announces Donation Drive In Support of Horizons Savannah’s Summer Swimming Program

(SAVANNAH, GA) Friends Introducing Swimming and Healthy Habits (FISHH) in collaboration with the Georgia Coastal Aquatic Team (GCAT) and the Savannah Swim Team (SST) will be holding a “Swim Spree” donation drive on Tuesday, April 12 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Chatham County Aquatic Center, located 7240 Sallie Mood Road. This is the fourth year FISHH has held the “Swim Spree” in support of Horizons Savannah’s summer swimming program. The current FISHH president and vice president are Savannah Arts Academy sophomores Andrew Royek and Harrison Wayner, respectively.

In addition to monetary donations, new or gently used goggles, swim suits, towels and training equipment will be accepted at the Aquatic Center on or before April 12. All proceeds benefit students grades Kindergarten through 8th grade who participate in Horizons over the summer.

“We are so grateful for the support FISHH has given us over the years. There are many young people in our community who have limited access to swimming facilities and never learn to swim,” said Christy Edwards, Horizons Executive Director. “For only $25, a student in our summer program will receive swim lessons and life-saving skills for an entire summer. These are fitness and safety skills they will have for a lifetime.”

ABOUT HORIZONS
The mission of Horizons is to provide students from low-income families in the Savannah area an academic, cultural, and recreational program designed to help close the achievement gap by preventing summer learning loss and encouraging academic growth. The program is hosted by three independent schools, Savannah Country Day School, Bethesda Academy and St. Andrew’s School. Students, ages 5-15, participate in rigorous academic study, recreational activities and swimming lessons for 6 weeks out of the summer and gain an average of 2-3 months skills.
