(SAVANNAH, GA) The Savannah Friends of Music announces local concerts in the Savannah community in support of the 30th anniversary of Music in Our Schools Month. Local schools in the Savannah area are celebrating this month by having special music activities. Some schools are also celebrating by participating in the Georgia Music Educators Association Chorus Performance Evaluations, Georgia All State Chorus Performances in Athens and Georgia Music Educators Association Large Group Performance Evaluation Music Festival at Armstrong State University.
The purpose of Music in our Schools Month is to celebrate and raise awareness about music education by showcasing performances, having sing-alongs and providing music activities that show the positive affects of music programs and how music helps students excel academically .This is an opportunity for music teachers to bring more focus and attention to the music programs within the school and the community.
"Music should be a part of every person’s life, in school or out of school," said Mr. Raymond Patricio, President of the Savannah Friends of Music, "Take extra time this month to go to a school concert, the Savannah Music Festival or the Savannah Winds Concert."
Below is a schedule of concerts and performances in the Savannah community during the month of March:
According the National Association of Music Education, the Music in Our Schools Month began as a single statewide celebration in 1973, and has grown over the decades to encompass a day, then a week, and then in 1985 to become a month long celebration of school music.
