Friends of the Savannah Coastal Wildlife Refuges raises $2500 for the Kingfisher Pond

The Friends recently held an on-line and silent auction to benefit the Kingfisher Pond Discovery Center Project.

Thanks to our generous donors, we raised $2500, bringing our running total to more than $71,000. The following individuals and companies donated items to the auctions: Wild Birds Unlimited; Crystal Beer Parlor; Dr. Robert and Terri Beard; George Cathcart; Dot Bambach; Alfie Wace; Captain JB Riffle; Eric Horan; Ambos Seafood; Jamie Anderson; the Andaz Hotel; The Ancient Olive; Pegasus Riding Academy; Capt. Mike’s Dolphin Tours; Carretta Research Project; The Collective Face; Portman’s Music Academy; The Florence Restaurant; Swampgirls Paddle Club; Southeast Helicopter; and Wilderness Southeast.

The Kingfisher Pond Discovery Center will help support the US Fish & Wildlife Service's Urban Wildlife Refuge Initiative by providing much-needed classroom and laboratory space and programs to engage and educate our young people about wildlife and wildlife habitat, inspiring them to become wildlife defenders for the future.

The Center will also be available to local outdoor-related groups for meetings, programs and field trips.

The Advisory Board is working to raise the estimated $350,000 needed for the project from private donations and grants, as no Federal money is available.

Our largest contributor so far has been the IKEA Distribution Center in Port Wentworth, donating $18,500. A list of all donors can be found on our website.
