Thousands of lives benefit from Goodwill and community.
(SAVANNAH, GA) As the economy continues its slow recovery, many people continue to struggle to find and keep good jobs. Even in the toughest of times, however, Goodwill has reason to celebrate. Last year, 24,427 people in the Coastal Empire who were struggling to find and keep good jobs benefited from the sale of Goodwill donations, an annual increase of nearly 30 percent.
Every year since 1951, Goodwill agencies across the United States and Canada have
marked the first full week of May as Goodwill Industries Week, a commemoration that celebrates new jobs and changed lives. As is tradition at Goodwill will host a variety of events including career fairs, award ceremonies and employees’ events.
Goodwill will hold six career fairs at local Job Connection sites throughout the region on Tuesday, May 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is a chance for local residents to find out about training resources and job opportunities within their community. Goodwill career fair locations will include West Broad Street YMCA, Richmond Hill, Statesboro, Brunswick, Lyons, and Waycross. Goodwill funds job training and placement programs, and support services such as financial education, youth programs and other family strengthening initiatives by selling donations of gently used clothing and household goods in both stores and online.
“When you give to Goodwill, you are helping people who lack education or work experience, those who have physical or mental disabilities, older workers, veterans and others,” said Mohsen Badran, CEO of Goodwill of the Coastal Empire. “This year, we plan to strengthen the work we do here in our local community by adding four additional Job Connection sites within our region.”
