Lizann Roberts Joins Georgia Health Initiative Board, Bringing Over 35 Years of Public Health Leadership Experience

(SAVANNAH, Ga.) Georgia Health Initiative has announced the appointment of Lizann Roberts to its esteemed Board of Directors. Roberts has served as the executive director of Coastal Georgia Indicators Coalition (CGIC) since Fall 2017.

Since 2002, Georgia Health Initiative has worked together with organizations in communities across the state, to create a Georgia in which all people have the opportunity to attain their fullest potential for health. The mission of the nonpartisan, independent organization is to advance health equity, focusing on inspiring and promoting action that changes systems.

Roberts is known for being at the forefront of coalition building, community development, and the implementation of social determinants of health initiatives. Her work has been recognized for being instrumental in driving positive change and promoting equity in healthcare access and outcomes.

In 2007, she worked with Savannah Mayor Dr. Otis Johnson to launch Healthy Savannah and continues to be active in that organization. She also currently serves as the executive director of Coastal Georgia Indicators Coalition and the Chatham Family Connection Collaborative. Before these roles with non-profits, Roberts was a faculty member of two academic institutions, created employee development and health management programs for large multi-site organizations, and designed comprehensive health improvement programs for two large healthcare systems.

“It is an honor to represent Chatham County and the southeast region of the state in serving the Georgia Health Initiative,” Roberts said. “I am excited to contribute my experience and insights to further the organization’s mission of enhancing community well-being and advancing public health initiatives.”

With undergraduate and graduate degrees in health education and with leadership certifications from The Center for Creative Leadership, and Georgetown University, Roberts brings a unique blend of academic rigor and practical experience to her new role.

In 2023, Roberts received the Howard and Mary Morrison Award for community service. She received the inaugural Peace Builder award alongside Savannah Mayor Van Johnson in 2022 and was named a Community STAR by the board of Savannah Technical College in 2021.

In addition to her professional endeavors, Roberts is actively engaged in her community, serving on the boards of various organizations including Inspire Savannah (TEDx), WomenHeart and The Front Porch, among others.
