John Manly at Bouhan Falligant LLP has been named a Savannah city representative for the 2nd Annual Legal Food Frenzy by the Young Lawyers Division of the State Bar of Georgia.
(SAVANNAH, GA) John Manly at Bouhan Falligant LLP has been named a Savannah city rep for the 2nd Annual Legal Food Frenzy by the Young Lawyers Division of the State Bar of Georgia. Manly will be recruiting firms in the city to compete to raise food and funds for Second Harvest Food Bank during a 2-week competition in April.
“This is a friendly competition between law firms, corporate law offices and legal organizations to help families who need food assistance in our region” said Manly. Last year we had more than 200 firms in 50 cities competing statewide. We raised the equivalent of 612,000 pounds of food – this year we’ll raise even more.”
This competition is a joint effort by the Young Lawyers Division, the Attorney General’s Office and the Georgia Food Bank Association. The winner will receive the highly coveted “Attorney General’s Cup” from Georgia’s Attorney General Sam Olens. Awards will also be given in Sole Proprietor, Small Firm, Medium Firm, Large Firm, Legal Organization and Corporate Law Firm divisions. Any firm in the state can win, since the awards are based on a per person average (pounds raised divided by the number of employees in the firm). For more information go to galegalfoodfrenzy.org. Firms can sign up to compete beginning March 5. The competition is April 22 – May 3, 2013.
“The Legal Food Frenzy is a great opportunity for Georgia lawyers to challenge each other outside the courtroom for a noble cause – reducing hunger in Georgia,” said Attorney General Sam Olens. “I was thrilled by the tremendous response to last year’s competition and look forward to an even more successful drive this year. I encourage each and every lawyer in Georgia to join us in lending a helping hand to our less fortunate neighbors.”

And the timing couldn’t be better according to Danah Craft, Executive Director of the Georgia Food Bank Association. “The 7 regional food banks in Georgia experience an increase in demand during the summer months when children who depend on free/reduced lunch at school are out of school and eating out of their household pantries,” Craft said. “The food and funds raised in this competition will help the food banks go into the summer months strong and well stocked with food for those families.”
