Matilda Jane Clothing Trunk Shows Expands to Savannah

(SAVANNAH, GA) Children’s clothing entrepreneur Robyn Shirley is bringing a unique line of clothing for little girls to Savannah. The fashion consultant and Independent Trunk Keeper for Matilda Jane Clothing will expand her South Carolina-based business to begin hosting Trunk Shows in the Savannah area later this month.

“It just made sense to bring Matilda Jane Clothing Trunk Shows across the river to Savannah,” Shirley explained. “I’m looking for mothers and grandmothers who have little girls and love dressing them in unique children’s fashions.”

Shirley has built her successful home-based business since 2008. She was one of the brand’s first independent representatives, known as Trunk Keepers, and is now one of more than 500 representatives across the nation. She was also recently named as a Team Leader and now fosters new Trunk Keepers across South Carolina, Virginia and Georgia.

The native of Yemassee, SC, attended Beaufort Academy, and then earned an undergraduate degree in sociology from Furman University. It was there that she developed a passion for marketing, which led to a career in fashion merchandising in New York. Being a self-proclaimed “southern girl,” her heart led her back to South Carolina, where she pursued a master’s degree in occupational therapy at the Medical University of South Carolina. There, she met and later married Paul Shirley. They settled in Bluffton, where she managed his Oral Surgery practice and worked as an occupational therapist until devastating news changed everything.

“My husband and I had planned to have children, but our plans were put on hold when I was diagnosed with breast cancer,” Shirley explained. “But after undergoing a bilateral mastectomy, and with the guidance of a wonderful medical team, I was finally able to become pregnant and I delivered two healthy babies in 2004.

After the birth of her twin daughters, Shirley wanted to pursue a career that offered more flexibility and combined her passion for fashion with her new job as a mother.

“I discovered Matilda Jane Clothing and loved their mission, which is about keeping little girls little,” Shirley observed. “The clothes are age appropriate. They design their own fabrics. I think dressing little girls is a great career for a mother.”

Shirley is excited about bringing her passion for children’s clothing to Savannah and looks forward to meeting other mothers (and grandmothers) who enjoy girl’s fashions and might be interested in hosting a Matilda Jane Clothing Trunk Show in their home.

Matilda Jane Clothing’s designs are youthful, playful and expressive. The brand’s whimsical approach to texture, pattern and color results in designs that capture the spirit and imagination of childhood. Matilda Jane Clothing is available in girls, tweens and adults sizes.

MORE INFORMATION ON MATILDA JANE CLOTHING
Matilda Jane Clothing (MJC) (www.matildajaneclothing.com) is a kitchen table startup that’s quickly grown into a national children’s clothing business. With a lifelong passion for art and design, founder, chief designer since 2006 Denise DeMarchis spent a decade showcasing her painted furniture and clothing line at regional art fairs before launching MJC.

Despite MJC’s strong online presence – more than 50,000 Facebook fans, a thriving blog, and a website that attracts more than 70,000 unique visitors monthly – the company has bucked the trend and chosen not to have an e-commerce store. MJC sales are made directly though a Trunk Keeper, a representative who gets to know her customers personally. The exclusive sale of clothing by Trunk Keepers is a wonderful direct selling model through which DeMarchis is able to pay forward business opportunities for entrepreneurial women driven by creativity and relationship building.
