Park Place Outreach and Safe Shelter to Hold Rally Against Dating Violence
(SAVANNAH, GA) The Park Place Outreach – Youth Emergency Shelter’s Street Outreach Program has teamed up with Safe Shelter to host the Teen Domestic Violence Prevention Rally on Saturday, February 14 at Forsyth Park. The rally will take place from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. During the rally, there will be several information booths set up around the park and poetry readings.
According to LoveIsRespect.org, One in three adolescents in the U.S. is a victim of physical, sexual, emotional or verbal abuse from a dating partner, and girls and young women between the ages of 16 and 24 experience the highest rate of intimate partner violence. Violent relationships in adolescence can have serious ramifications by putting the victims at higher risk for substance abuse, eating disorders, risky sexual behavior and further domestic violence.
"This rally is a proactive way the Street Outreach Program can provide information on places for teens to go when they need assistance or support," said Kenneth Brown, Director of the Street Outreach Program, "We want promote healthy dating habits and increase awareness to prevent teen domestic violence."
Funded on and off since 1997, the Street Outreach Program team offers mentoring to resident adolescents and provides counseling, clothing and personal care items to teens and young adults up to age 21 that are in need and might not come in to the shelter.

Park Place Outreach Youth Emergency Shelter, located at 514 E. Henry St., provides support for troubled children and teens in Savannah and the surrounding area.
