(SAN MARCOS, TEXAS)  The City of San Marcos, Texas has authorized the Red River Racing Team to set-up gates and host slalom coaching camps and competitions during the winter season at Rio Vista Whitewater Park on the San Marcos River. Red River Racing hopes to bring in athletes from around the world to enjoy our unique year-round warm whitewater facilities, and make San Marcos a Center of Excellence for Winter Slalom Training.

The Slalom Facilities at San Marco’s make an Ideal Winter Training Site!

The amazing San Marcos Springs, just upstream at Aquarena, continuously discharge between 100-300 cubic feet per second of limestone-cleansed, crystal-clear water from the Edwards Aquifer.

The stream has a constant year-round temperature of 72 degrees Fahrenheit (22 degrees Celsius), and is so gorgeous you will think you’re paddling at a Caribbean beach. The water is so clear that you can always see to the bottom, even thirty feet down.

The artificially enhanced Rio Vista Whitewater Course provides perfect class 2+ whitewater and flat-water for world-class workouts. The upper an middle pools are each large enough for circuit training in strong currents with sharp eddies, but with good resting pools as well. The lowest drop is attainable, and lift-overs to the upper pools are easily accomplished.

The winters are mild to warm winters… cold spells do occur, but pass quickly.
