Women Business Owners Gather to Showcase Growth and Style in Sandfly in Support of Buy Local
Savannah’s fastest growing destination for shopping, eating, and exploring

(SAVANNAH, GA) Savannah’s lowcountry enclave of Sandfly is quickly becoming a prime daytrip destination, thanks to its vibrant, creative community of women business owners. The area’s rich historical culture has been greatly enhanced by a boom in retail offerings from luxury brand home goods and apparel, local artisans’ wares and several multi-cultural eateries. The balance of history and commerce makes Sandfly a unique local magnet for residents and those visiting the Savannah area.

A recent gathering of 25 local businesses owned by women successfully showcased the best of Sandfly’s diverse contributions to the area’s tourism draws. Organized by Mary Dugas of SandflySavannah.com and styled by Sebrell Smith Designer Events, the event featured visually stunning displays from a variety of local ventures, including designer clothing and high-end décor, jewelry and handcrafted accessories, artwork, and bath and beauty products. Culinary contributions included fresh baked artisanal breads, seared ahi tuna, a gourmet anti-pasta display, wine and cupcakes, all from local restaurants and shops.

Dugas noted, “It was beyond exciting to see all of the gorgeous products and merchandise from these thriving local businesses, all brought together in one place. Sandfly has such a wealth of options for visitors to explore, and these industrious women are a big reason for that.”

Featuring a mix of retail and home-based businesses, the event in all its splendor was captured by Sandfly’s own Katie Joyner Photography at the home of Summer Home owner Summer Marshall. See a gallery of the photos.

“Our first meeting started as a welcoming party for Dr. Canfield when she opened Sandfly Family Dental,” said Marjorie Young, CEO of Carriage Trade Public Relations, “Once we all got together, we knew we had to keep meeting as a group. I am glad these businesses collectively worked to encourage Buy Local efforts as Mary kept the momentum going. Our next meeting is Friday, Jan. 16 at Cutters Point Coffee Shop.”

With an eye toward community and philanthropy, women-owned businesses in the Sandfly area are committed to giving back. Donations to local Savannah causes and partnerships between local products and service providers, ensuring that success for one will promote success for all. Further demonstrating their dedication to community, 26 businesses in Sandfly will join together at next month’s Sandfly Holiday Open House and Toy Drive (Dec. 11, 2014, 4:30PM-8:30PM). Businesses will provide special discounts for shoppers who donate, while everyone attending will enjoy celebrations, live music, and dinner specials. The collection of toys will benefit 21st Century Community Learning Centers.
