(SAVANNAH, GA) AWWIN, Inc (Assisting Working Women In Need), Habitat for Humanity Effingham County and Grace Culture International of Guyton, GA have partnered to present a Women’s Build Brunch on Saturday, January 31 at 11 a.m. at the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum. The goal of the Women’s Build Brunch will be to provide more information about the upcoming Habitat build, while potentially rallying at least 100 women to raise the $15,000 needed to build the home for a local grandmother. The brunch is also sponsored by Thrivent Financial Coastal Advantage Group and Two Chicks And A Trunk.
“Women are the key to helping more families with decent, healthy and affordable housing in Effingham County. We have to do a better job of involving women in all aspects of Habitat for Humanity,” said George Groce, construction manager.
Habitat for Humanity’s Women’s Build Program encourages women to make a difference by building homes and creating safe communities for children to grow up in. The program provides an environment where women can feel comfortable learning skills in construction which they may not have had the option to learn elsewhere. Habitat for Humanity Effingham County actively recruits and trains women to help build and maintain healthy and affordable homes. Women contractors and women owed businesses are also enlisted to assist with building processes.
The upcoming Habitat build is will be a home for a 74-year-old-grandmother who has been living in Rincon for 14 years while raising her four granddaughters and great grandson. Groundbreaking for the build is scheduled for Saturday, February 7 at 9:00AM
Directions to site:
Take Highway 21 to Rincon; turn onto Fourth Street (next to Rincon Elementary School); turn left onto Lexington Avenue; turn right onto Talmadge Avenue (entrance to Governor’s Ridge). The build site is on the left. Parking will be on the right.
