The Annual Savannah Wiener Dawg Race & Small Dawg Festival is being held in Savannah the weekend of Saturday, October 4th.  Chef Matt Cohen, owner of The New South Café, and Carey Ferrara, with the Georgia Department of Economic Development, are the Grand Marshalls for the event which is being hosted by Grayson Stadium and The Sand Gnats.  Dr. Carla Case-McCorvey and Case Veterinary Hospital are the official Veterinary Medicine partners for the event.  The world’s largest Weiner Dawg invasion is sure to be a big hit among all small dog owners, and will consist of many fun activities for the entire family.  For more information or to register your dog to race, visit www.SavananhDachshundClub.com .  All profits to benefit Dachshund Rescue of North America (www.DRNA.org). The Small Dawg Weekend kicks off Saturday morning with the Weiner Dawg Race on historic River Street from 9AM -12 NOON followed by the Small Dog Festival at Grayson Stadium (From 1 PM – 4 PM).  Festival will include a Weiner Dog Art Exhibition, Blessing of the Animals, fun activities, entertainment and shopping for all.  The Small Dog World Cup Races will be held during this time, where small breeds of all kinds—such as Pugs, Chihuahuas, Papillons, and Poodles race for the title.  The Small Dog Costume Contest and Parade will begin at 3PM with closing award ceremonies being held at 4PM.

Founded in 2005, the Savannah Dachshund Club is a social and networking group for dachshunds and friends throughout the Southeast.  The group meets on the 1st Sunday of each Month at 2 PM at the Forsyth Park Fountain in Savannah.   The Weiner Dawg races on River Street quickly became a big hit and inspired this year’s First Annual Small Dawg Festival.  Currently, t he fastest Dachshund in Savannah is Longfellow, a 3-legged wiener Dawg, who beat the entire competition of 4-legged dawgs in 2007 with his amazing performance!  www.SavananhDachshundClub.com
