Savannah Tree Foundation Appoints Jackson Alexander as Executive Director

(SAVANNAH, Ga.) The Savannah Tree Foundation has named Jackson Alexander as its new executive director, the organization announced this week. He officially began the role on June 12, following a months-long search.

Alexander brings a diverse background in nonprofit and higher education leadership, with experience at organizations including the University of Arkansas System, Communities Unlimited, the National League of Cities, the University of South Carolina System, and Georgia Southern University.

Originally from a cattle farm in rural Oklahoma, Alexander has lived in Savannah since 2021. He holds a bachelor’s degree in agricultural communications and economics from Oklahoma State University. He also earned a Master of Science in agricultural and extension education and a Master of Education in adult and lifelong learning, both from the University of Arkansas.

“I’m deeply honored and excited to lead the Savannah Tree Foundation into its next chapter,” Alexander said. “Throughout the interview process, I was immensely impressed with the expertise and dedication of the staff and the passion expressed from the Board of Directors. STF has long been a fixture in the Savannah community, and this is an exciting time to come on board to continue the organization’s incredible work.”

Founded in 1982, the Savannah Tree Foundation works to protect and grow the urban forest through tree planting, education and advocacy across Chatham County. As executive director, Alexander will oversee strategic initiatives, community partnerships and daily operations.

“We are confident that Jackson’s broad professional background and deep commitment to community engagement, organizational leadership, and fund development make him the right leader for the foundation,” said Matthew Hallett, chair of the board of directors.
