Savannah Tree Foundation gives away 500 trees in collaboration with State Farm® and Arbor Day Foundation

Local tree distribution adds trees to private properties in order to grow urban forest
Savannah, Ga. – On October 28th, 2023, from 9 AM to 11 AM Savannah Tree Foundation will host the second annual “Trick or Trees,” in collaboration with State Farm and the Arbor Day Foundation. The Halloween-themed event will celebrate the benefits of trees and distribute 500 trees to community members.

The community tree giveaway prioritizes distributing free trees to private property owners to combat tree loss in the region. Trees can reduce homeowners’ utility bills, absorb stormwater, and improve quality of life. With a focus on native and fruit trees, the tree giveaway will also contribute to growing a diverse urban forest to benefit the whole community. The event is located at Tricentennial Park on the grounds of the Coastal Heritage Society – also home to Savannah Tree Foundation’s office. Wear a costume and join us for treats and trees!

“Over 80% of land in Chatham County is privately owned. That means to grow our urban forest, we need our neighbors to plant trees,” said Zoe Rinker, Executive Director of Savannah Tree Foundation, “Free tree distributions are a great way to engage the community, spread the word about the benefits of trees, and get trees onto private property. We are grateful to our partners at Arbor Day Foundation and State Farm for sponsoring this giveaway and adding 500 new trees to Savannah’s beautiful tree canopy.”

“State Farm is committed to helping communities recover from disasters and manage future risks,” said Apsara Sorensen, State Farm Corporate Responsibility Director. “We are proud to support tree planting as part of this effort.”

“The Arbor Day Foundation is dedicated to helping our local planting partners unlock the transformative power of trees in their community,” said Dan Lambe, chief executive of the Arbor Day Foundation. “Trees clean our air, cool our cities and improve the lives of the people around them. We’re happy to help Savannah Tree Foundation maximize the impact of their urban canopy and inspire more people to engage with nature in a meaningful way.”
