The Mission:PR Intern and Nonprofit MIXER Matched 30 Local Nonprofit Organizations with Students

(SAVANNAH, GA) On Wednesday, March 5, the inaugural Mission:PR Intern and Nonprofit MIXER offered a chance for students to meet representatives from a number of nonprofit agencies in the hopes of developing an internship for the upcoming semester.

Sponsored by The United Way of the Coastal Empire, Carriage Trade Public Relations Inc. and the Savannah Morning News, the MIXER had a presentation from Marjorie Young, CEO of Carriage Trade PR on how to put together a yearly PR Plan using her REPUTATION MATRIX™ method. Nonprofits and Interns then worked together to prepare a yearly PR plan. Savannah Morning News editors also discussed what makes a good press release and how interns should get information to the media.

More than 30 students attended, representing Communications Departments from Georgia Southern University and Savannah State University.
The 30 nonprofits whom attended, included: CCDS, Habitat for Humanity, Ogeechee River Keeper, MorningStar Cultural Arts Group, Dawn’s Daughter Organization, Hospice Savannah, Telluride Mountainfilm, Horizons, Med Bank, The Living Vine, AWWIN, Inc., Wilderness Southeast, Boyscouts of America, Grass Strip Foundation, Savannah Tree Foundation, Ossabaw Island, The Ready, Set, Go! Back to School Organization, Coastal Georgia Botanical Gardens, Coastal Pet Rescue, St. Andrew’s School, Greenbriar Children’s Center, Inc., Faith Equestrian Therapeutic Center, The United Way, The Savannah Food and Wine Festival, Girls on the Run of Coastal Georgia, Susan G. Komen for the Cure – Coastal GA Affiliate, The Humane Society, Hospice: Steward Companion Program, COPE (Childhood Obesity Prevention and Education), and Friends of Barnabas, Inc.

Beth Logan, Director of Marketing & Volunteer Services at Hospice Savannah, said, "I know from sitting on United Way allocations committees that so many non profits have no budget and often no clue on how to pull a PR/Marketing plan together. This [MIXER] was valuable for many in attendance. Paula and I were so happy to meet Olivia Nelson from GSU and have encouraged her to apply for an internship with either Hospice Savannah or our Steward Companion program next semester.”

This event was free and open to any local nonprofit organizations and students majoring in Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, and Business Communications.
