SECOND ANNUAL SAVANNAH ROTARY READ-IN ATTRACTS 572 VOLUNTEERS
(SAVANNAH, GA) The Rotary Club of Savannah’s second annual Savannah Rotary Read-In drew 572 local volunteers who served as community readers and read for one hour to students in 600 pre-k through third-grade classrooms in 32 schools. WORLD DOWN SYNDROME DAY – MARCH 21
(SAVANNAH, GA) March 21 is the global awareness day for those with Down syndrome and has officially been observed by the United Nations since 2012. On this day (3/21 chosen for the third copy of the 21st chromosome pair unique to those with Down syndrome), people with Down syndrome and their families, friends, employers and supporters organize and participate in activities to raise awareness for rights and inclusion. Locally, members of the Lowcountry Down Syndrome Society encourage people to wear mismatched socks and start conversations about diversity, acceptance and equality.
