Dazhong Wu receives the Sam Nunn Fellowship for 2012-2013
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
(ATLANTA, GA) Dazhong Wu, a Ph.D. candidate in mechanical engineering at the
Georgia Institute of Technology, was recently awarded the Sam Nunn Fellowship
for 2012-2013. As part of his fellowship Wu will conduct research and develop a
detailed policy proposal on Cloud-Based Design and Manufacturing (CBDM), his area
of expertise, which is a novel research topic and an emerging paradigm of product
development, and receive training in the program’s weekly Security Seminar.
Wu, a native of China, received a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from Hunan
University in 2004 and an M.S. degree in mechanical engineering from Shanghai Jiao
Tong University in 2007. He began the doctoral program in mechanical engineering
at Georgia Tech in 2009. Wu currently work with Dr. David Rosen and Dr. Dirk
Schaefer, serving as a graduate research assistant in the college’s mechanical engineering
Wu is the 2011 recipient of the Rotary Club of Savannah’s Porter G. Pierpont Memorial
Scholarship. He co-authored an article titled “SysML-Based Design Chain Information
Modeling for Sheet Metal Production Reconfiguration in the Journal of Intelligent
Manufacturing in 2012. Wu served as chair of the American Society of Mechanical
Engineers Savannah Section and chair of the Chinese Students and Scholars Association
for the 2010-2011 term.
As part of his CBDM research, Wu will examine how cloud technology can change
the way that design and manufacturing engineers develop products and the way that
customers are involved in this process. He will attempt to formulate a systematic
architecture and to conduct both qualitative and quantitative analysis for CBDM that can
characterize and provide fundamental and theoretical insights into the next generation of
product realization modeling.
“I am very happy and deeply appreciative to be selected as the recipient of the Sam Nunn
Fellowship. I am especially pleased to share this award with my research advisors, Dr.
David Rosen and Dr. Dirk Schaefer, for their mentorship and invaluable advices that
make me think thoroughly and differently.”
