HEALTHY SAVANNAH AND COASTAL YMCA SEEKING COMMUNITY ADVOCATES FOR FLU AND COVID-19 PREVENTION
(SAVANNAH CEOHealthy Savannah and the YMCA of Coastal Georgia are reminding area residents that there’s still time to get a flu vaccine. December 5-11 is National Influenza Vaccination Week, a national awareness week focused on highlighting the importance of influenza vaccination. The organizations are also recruiting community members to continue a community-based health awareness initiative designed to raise COVID-19 and flu awareness and increase vaccine access in communities at high risk of severe illness, hospitalization, and death due to COVID-19 or flu.
CENTER PARC RETURNS AS SPONSOR OF GREENBRIAR’S HOLIDAY GIFT WRAP FUNDRAISER
(SAVANNAH, GA) Center Parc Credit Union will once again be a top sponsor when Greenbriar Children’s Center presents its annual gift wrap center starting December 10 at Oglethorpe Mall this upcoming holiday season. The gift wrapping service is the largest fundraiser of the year for Greenbriar, which offers an emergency shelter for children, along with early childhood education and family preservation and support services.
HEALTHY SAVANNAH URGES DONATIONS OF HEALTHY FOODS DURING HOLIDAYS
(SAVANNAH, GA) Nearly 160,000 people in Coastal Georgia struggle with food insecurity and many families turn to food pantries for additional assistance, especially during the holidays. Healthy Savannah and the YMCA of the Coastal Georgia, administrators of the five-year, $3.4 million grant called Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health (REACH), are encouraging those who can donate to others during this holiday season to provide healthy options, such as canned fruits in 100% fruit juice, dried fruits, and low sodium canned products. Donations of whole-grain bread and pasta and breakfast cereals, along with proteins such as canned tuna in water, are also encouraged.

(GARDEN CITY, GA) The 7th Harvest Fest for the Center Parc Credit Union-sponsored community garden of the Garden City Homestead Association was held on Saturday, November 20, just in time for Thanksgiving. The garden yielded collard, mustard and turnip greens as well as cabbage and broccoli. Additionally, the Food Lion grocery store donated more than 30 turkeys to eager and receptive recipients. More than 200 bags of fresh produce and groceries were given out to those in the community who drove, walked, or rode their bicycles up to the event. The next Harvest Giveaway is scheduled for Thursday, December 30, right before the new year.

SAVANNAH CIVIC CENTER COVID-19 TESTING SITE HOLIDAY SCHEDULE
(CHATHAM COUNTY, GA) Some adjustments are being made to the Savannah Civic Center COVID-19 testing site to accommodate other events scheduled to take place there in December and January. Testing will be offered Monday – Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. throughout the month of December, except for December 24th 25th, and 31st when the site will be closed for the holidays. No testing will be offered at the Savannah Civic Center on Saturdays in December. There will be no COVID-19 testing at the Savannah Civic Center during the month of January. The drive-through COVID-19 testing site on the Georgia Tech Savannah Campus at 210 Technology Circle will remain open from Monday – Friday from 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. The West Chatham testing site will also be open on the following Saturdays: December 4th, 11th, and 18th from 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. To pre-register for a COVID-19 test, visit gachd.org/covidtest.For assistance with scheduling a COVID-19 test, call 912-230-9744.
