NEARLY 9,000 PEOPLE GET HELP THROUGH HEROHELPME.COM
(SAVANNAH, GA) Nearly 9,000 people across the Savannah area have found the help they need during the pandemic through HeroHelpMe.com. The database was launched in January 2020 by the St. Joseph’s/Candler African-American Health Information & Resource Center through grant funding awarded by the Centers for Disease Control’s Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health (REACH) program to the YMCA of Coastal Georgia and Healthy Savannah. Its purpose is to empower residents with access to a one-stop, all-inclusive resource of agencies and programs.

ENMARKET ENCOURAGE HEALTH LECTURE SERIES EXPLORES HEALTHY WALKING ROUTES
(SAVANNAH MORNING NEWS) The Enmarket Encourage Health Education Series, in partnership with Healthy Savannah, streamed its latest broadcast on January 7 with “Activity-Friendly Routes to Everyday Destinations” with speaker Armand Turner, Healthy Savannah / YMCA of Coastal Georgia Physical Activity Program Manager. The third entry of the series will be April 1, featuring Dr. Nandi A Marshall, assistant professor of Health Sciences with Georgia Southern University who will speak on “Breaking the Breastfeeding Barriers,” which highlights the health benefits for breastfed infants and breastfeeding mothers, and how businesses can help eliminate the barriers that exist for many breastfeeding mothers and children.

VACCINES
(WSAV) The National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) wrote a letter to the Georgia Department of Public Health, requesting that officials consider people with Down syndrome when prioritizing who would receive the COVID-19 vaccine first. President of the NDSS’s Lowcountry chapter John Bogardus and other advocates argue people with Down syndrome are at a higher risk of death from COVID-19 due to complex medical conditions and comorbidities that exist in this population.

Volunteers will meet on January 31 for NTS Volunteer Prayer Night, assist with the Shine-Thru outdoor drive-thru celebration, and help with the Night to Shine Virtual Prom experience.
