FDA IS A STEP CLOSER TO SHUTTING DOWN LOOPHOLE THAT’S FUELING TEEN VAPING
(HEALTHY SAVANNAH) A provision in the congressional spending bill would give the Food and Drug Administration greater authority to regulate synthetic nicotine — an ingredient e-cigarette manufacturers have used to get around regulations. According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, the new regulation would be part of the effort to stop the dangerous resurgence in teen vaping. Healthy Savannah and the Coastal Health District are encouraging young people who want to quit smoking or vaping to know that help is just a phone call or text away. Call the Georgia Tobacco Quit Line at (877) 270-STOP and get confidential, 24/7 support through #ThisIsQuitting by texting VAPEFREEGA to 88709.

(HEALTHY SAVANNAH) National Nutrition Month was created by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics to raise awareness for the development of healthy eating and physical activity habits. The theme of this year’s campaign is “Celebrate a World of Flavors.” The campaign asks participants to embrace the diversity of the world by identifying tasty and nutritious foods from a variety of cultures, and recognizing the diversity of our own bodies, backgrounds, and nutrition and physical activity goals. National Nutrition Month 2022 has a five week action plan. It encourages participants to begin by learning how to properly read Nutrition Facts labels and begin sampling healthy foods from different cultures, making an appointment to see a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, creating meal plans, using those meal plans to make healthy meals at home, and ends with putting all of the techniques together. To learn more about National Nutrition Month and participate, visit the website and activity list at https://www.eatright.org/food/resources/national-nutrition-month/ideas-to-get-involved-in-nnm.

CC NEEDS A HOME
(COASTAL PET RESCUE) It’s very possible that CC is an actual angel on earth. This sweet senior girl has so much love to give to the right person. Likes: belly rubs, brushing, slow walks around the block, other small female dogs, giving kisses, car rides with the windows cracked, long naps, and light, adorable snoring. CC would do very well in a quiet home with one or two calm adults, and perhaps the right small dog.

MARCH IS WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH
(HEALTHY SAVANNAH) March is Women’s History Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of great women. Women’s history is integral to our understanding of all history at all times. Examining the stories of historically marginalized populations reminds us of our progress and areas of growth. Women’s bodies are politicized and health concerns can be minimized or dismissed. When we think of intersectionality, we are reminded of the unique ways in which women of color experience health disparities. Healthy Savannah’s work centers around finding ways to overcome these barriers. Our partners have made great strides—we are approaching the anniversary of the completion of the Savannah H.O.P.E. Photovoice Project and the declaration of Savannah as a Breastfeeding and Chestfeeding Friendly Community. we are looking forward to future strides we will take.
(HEALTHY SAVANNAH) Healthy Savannah’s 2022 Community Survey is ready and we would love for you to take it so we can learn more about the health needs and wants in our community! Take the survey in the month of March for a chance to win a gift certificate to Ashford Tea Company!
