(Savannah, GA) For the second consecutive year, the Savannah Country Day School Mock Trial team is the Regional Mock Trial champion. After defeating teams from H. V. Jenkins and Benedictine in the preliminary rounds, SCDS faced off with Savannah Arts Academy in the Regional finals on Saturday, February 23. The victory over Savannah Arts earned the Country Day team its second title in a row- its third since 2003. The Savannah Country Day team advances to the state competition at the Gwinnett County Justice Center in Lawrenceville on March 15 and 16.

In Mock Trial competition, students play the roles of attorneys and witnesses based on evidence and witness statements provided to participants. Professional attorneys or judges serve as the presiding judges and jurors. Teams are evaluated on their ability to make a logical, cohesive and persuasive presentation, rather than on the legal merits of the case.
The champion team is made up of seniors Evan Brower, Jordan Cranman, Rhett Reeves, Randy Capocasale, Jessie Garten, and Fay Gibson; juniors Katherine Morrow and Brian Twibell; and sophomores Alex Thomson, Ryan Sandler, Yolanda Borquaye, Victor Miltiades, Chris Formey, and Anthony Taylor.

In the regional competition SCDS students brought home a total of ten awards. Evan Brower earned three Best Attorney awards. Rhett Reeves took home two. Jessie Garten won two Top Witness awards, Fay Gibson received one, and Ryan Sandler brought home two.

The Savannah Country Day School Mock Trial team is coached by faculty Peter Foley and Ken Hincker. Hunter Maclean attorneys Colin McRae (SCDS Class of 1991), Dennis Keene (SCDS parent 2016 & 2018), and Rachel Young also lend their expertise to the team.
