(Atlanta – December 23, 2008) – Newell Recycling, LLC, one of the Southeast’s largest scrap metal processors, is pleased to announce the successful startup of the Newell Megashredder today at our Savannah, Georgia operation.

Newell Recycling of Savannah, LLC represents our third Newell location operating a megashredder, and the tenth location overall for our company. The 6000-horsepower megashredder, manufactured by The Shredder Company of El Paso, Texas, is the centerpiece of the Savannah ferrous operations, and is capable of processing more than 2,000 tons of scrap cars, appliances, and light steel daily.

"We started construction on this 40-acre greenfield facility on June 15th", says Bobby Triesch, Newell Recycling, LLC Vice President of Operations, "and in just over six months, we have built, and now commissioned, the most state-of-the-art shredding, eddy and sensor-sorting facility in the world. We have done so with a great group of people, led by project manager James Sargent."

Response from the community has been very favorable, both from a recycling as well as a site-preservation standpoint. Mr. Triesch points out that as many as 15 of the old oak trees onsite have been preserved. "We designed the facility around them," adds Triesch.

Newell Recycling, LLC is proud to be one of the nation’s premier processors of furnace-ready ferrous and nonferrous scrap metals. Now in our fourth decade of operation, Newell Recycling continues to provide scrap solutions to customers of all sizes, each with unique and demanding requirements. Newell Recycling, LLC presently operates ten locations in Georgia and South Carolina. For more information, or to contact Newell Recycling, call 404-766-1621 or visit www.newellrecycling.com.
