(SAVANNAH, GA / COASTAL GA) Childhood trauma and mental health issues in children, youth and young adults have risen sharply in the Savannah area, driven in great part by the COVID-19 pandemic, and now the existing support structure has received a four-year, $600,000 grant to address the issue.

Savannah’s Community Health Advocate Program Announces the First 10 Graduates

Members of the first graduating class share candid conversations about vaccine concerns and acceptance in Black and Hispanic communities.

(SAVANNAH, GA) During the summer of 2021, Healthy Savannah and the YMCA of Coastal Georgia developed a series of listening sessions to provide a safe environment for Black and Hispanic Savannahians to voice their thoughts, concerns, and questions about the COVID-19 vaccine.

Funded by a supplemental grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the program was intended to broaden the initiatives of the Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health (REACH) grant by increasing vaccine awareness and acceptance in communities at high risk of severe illness, hospitalization, and death due to COVID-19 or flu.

Winning Students Featured in Local Cookbook from Center Parc, SUGA

(SAVANNAH, Ga.) – Fifteen elementary students who are budding gardeners and cooks were selected to be published in a new cookbook that is being produced by Center Parc Credit Union and the Savannah Urban Garden Alliance (SUGA), in partnership with four Savannah elementary schools. Police Memorial Trail Reopens in Savannah, Helping Link Daffin Park to Lake Mayer

A ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned for 11:30 a.m. at the trailhead on the corner of Kerry St. and Dixie Ave., where City and County officials will gather with the Tide to Town board and members of the community to celebrate the conclusion of the five-year renovation effort.

(SAVANNAH, GA) Center Parc Credit Union and the Savannah Urban Garden Alliance (SUGA) have partnered with six Savannah elementary schools to create a recipe cookbook documenting the students’ first vegetable garden.

The project kicks off on Wednesday, Oct. 20 at noon at Butler Elementary School, 1909 Cynthia St., with an announcement from the participating schools, SUGA, and Center Parc discussing the process of putting the cookbook together.
